Operation METEORITE in Halo: Campaign Evolved: the three bonus prequel missions, where they unlock, the 2551 story, and walkthroughs for all three missions.
Halo Campaign Evolved Operation METEORITE — All 3 Bonus Missions Explained
Operation: METEORITE is the brand-new story arc in Halo: Campaign Evolved: three bonus missions — Boarding Action, The Most Dangerous Game and Heavy Burden — set in 2551, one year before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved. Master Chief and Sgt. Avery Johnson lead a covert strike aboard the Triumph of Tolerance, a Covenant agricultural research vessel orbiting the glassed human colony of Promise, hunting for data that could lead humanity to the Covenant homeworld, High Charity.
It's the biggest piece of new content in the remake, and reviewers have consistently singled it out: the arc introduces new weapons, new enemies (Brutes), a new boss-tier antagonist in the Minister of Harmony, and — most importantly — it's the first time Chief and Johnson fight side-by-side in canon, retroactively deepening every Johnson scene in the main campaign.

What Is Operation METEORITE & Where Does It Unlock?
- Three missions, available from the start from the "Bonus Missions / Operation: METEORITE" menu — no unlock required, playable in any order.
- Setting: the Triumph of Tolerance, a Covenant agricultural ship in orbit over Promise, a human colony that has already been glassed (scorched from orbit). The mission: extract Covenant navigation data pointing to High Charity.
- The team: Master Chief, Sgt. Johnson, ODST Lieutenant Williams, and Tiger Company Marines (in The Most Dangerous Game).
- The antagonist: the Minister of Harmony, a San'Shyuum (Prophet) conducting genetic experiments aboard the ship — the arc's final mission revolves around his research.

Operation METEORITE Story & Timeline
The arc is a prequel with consequences: Chief and Johnson extract the data, and Dr. Catherine Halsey confirms it includes the location of High Charity. The success is overshadowed a year later by the Fall of Reach and the start of CE — but the arc retroactively explains why the Covenant's agricultural ship Triumph of Tolerance was where it was, and why the Minister of Harmony's experiments matter to the Flood story that follows. It also canonically establishes the Chief/Johnson partnership that becomes one of the franchise's most beloved relationships.
Playing order within the arc matters for the story beats but not for unlocks:
- Boarding Action — infiltration: a captured Spirit dropship run onto the ship's hull and hangar, ending in the ship's interior.
- The Most Dangerous Game — the hunt-dome arenas: Chief, Johnson, Williams and Tiger Company push into the ship's training rooms and gene forge, uncovering the experiments.
- Heavy Burden — the climax: a push to the bridge, an escort back to the hangar, and a Seraph space combat finale around the ship.
The walkthrough hub places the arc in the full timeline.
Boarding Action — Walkthrough
Length: ~20-30 min · Collectibles: Malfunction, Johnny Ammo Seed, Leadhead + The Path terminal
The opener is a classic boarding operation with a nasty difficulty curve: the ship's defenders include Hunters, Brutes and Elites from the first rooms.
- Hangar fight: clear the initial hangar, then deal with the two white-and-gold Hunters — the first wall. Use the rocket launcher or fuel rod on their backs.
- Malfunction: after the Hunters, skip Johnson's route and take the side path down to the walkway.
- Training room: the sand-floor Elite room — backtrack at the top level for Johnny Ammo Seed.
- The Path terminal: immediately after the gravity lift near the end, turn around on landing.
- Final room: the tractor-beam room with Brute waves; Leadhead is through the door left of the lift. Don't ride the beam yet — the door is only accessible before you do.
Operation METEORITE is where the remake's new weapons debut — the Energy Sword and Brute Spiker appear in these missions before anywhere else in the campaign. Grab them when you see them; the weapons guide ranks both.
The Most Dangerous Game — Walkthrough
Length: ~30-40 min · Collectibles: Temperamental, Recession, Ghost + Penitent Report terminal
The hardest prequel mission: long outdoor arenas, bridge controls, a Wraith, and the arc's signature puzzle skull.
- First arena: Jackal snipers in the trees — and the first Temperamental encounter (golden Elite up on the cliff, upper right). Crack his shield with a long-range weapon.
- The Wraith bridge: shoot the brazier canisters for Recession (the door opens to the skull + an armory).
- Second Temperamental: the golden Elite at the far end, behind the Wraith. Be quick.
- Prison section: release the prisoners; grab the Penitent Report terminal in the side room with windows.
- Third Temperamental + Ghost: after the prison-break conversation, the golden Elite appears up-left in the outdoor arena. Crack him, clear the arena — the Temperamental skull spawns in the purple pylon. The Ghost skull is the brazier above the gate, needing a grenade jump or co-op boost.
- Jiralhanae Conservationist: don't kill any rampaging Brutes for this achievement — leave the Brutes to your allies or avoid them entirely.
All three golden-Elite shield-breaks must happen in one playthrough. Miss one and you restart the mission. The elites are invincible — you only need to register a hit on their shields.
Heavy Burden — Walkthrough
Length: ~30-40 min · Collectibles: Eye Patch, Grunt Birthday Party, Efficient + Harmonious Clarity terminal
The finale: bridge assault, escort, and the arc's most scripted set pieces.
- The bridge: skip the main crossing and take the side bridge for Eye Patch.
- Armory + Harmonious Clarity: after the cutscene, raid the armory and find the terminal hidden in the back-left corner — this is your 13th and final terminal.
- The multilevel room: Grunt Birthday Party on the rock spire (jump from the purple brazier).
- The gondola: restore power and ride; Efficient is on the out-of-bounds left platform with the return timer.
- Space combat: the finale puts you in a Seraph — the remake's new flyable space fighter — for a dogfight around the ship. It's the only space-combat segment in the game and a genuinely new set piece for a CE remake (see the vehicles guide).
The Seraph controls like a fast Banshee: boost to close distance, lead your shots, and don't hold still — enemy Seraphs and turret fire shred a stationary target.
New Weapons & Enemies from the Prequel
- Weapons: the arc is the debut for several of the 9 new weapons — the Energy Sword, Brute Spiker, Needle Rifle and Brute Plasma Rifle appear here first (and some, like the Spiker, only reliably appear here). After you clear the arc, several of them can also surface in main-campaign and Remix runs.
- Enemies: Brutes (Jiralhanae) appear as major foes — rampaging in The Most Dangerous Game, guarding the ship in Heavy Burden. The arc also features the Minister of Harmony's experiments, Hunters in confined spaces, and the Seraph squadron in the finale.
Prequel Collectibles (9 Skulls + 3 Terminals)
- 9 skulls: Malfunction, Johnny Ammo Seed, Leadhead (Boarding Action); Temperamental, Recession, Ghost (MDG); Eye Patch, Grunt Birthday Party, Efficient (Heavy Burden) — full routes on the skulls-3 page.
- 3 terminals: The Path, Penitent Report, Harmonious Clarity — locations on the terminals page.
- Each mission has a 20G achievement for its complete collectible set (Souvenirs, Brute Loops, Parting Gifts), and the arc feeds Headhunter (all 39 skulls) and Collector's Addition (all skulls + terminals).
Universally, yes. Reviewers praised the arc as "bonus missions that feel like they've always been there." They add ~1.5 hours of content, the best new weapons, the only space combat, and the most meaningful new story in the remake.
