Halo Campaign Evolved Missions 8-10 Walkthrough — Two Betrayals, Keyes, The Maw

The final third of the classic campaign is where Halo: Campaign Evolved demands the most of you: the three-way war of Two Betrayals, the Flood-consumed cruiser of Keyes (home of the hardest skull in the game), and The Maw's legendary Warthog escape.

Two Betrayals — Walkthrough

Mission length: ~50-70 min · Collectibles: Tough Luck, Black Eye, Mythic + Alone terminal

The reverse-route snow missions, now with the Flood and Covenant fighting each other while both try to kill you. The remake's version leans into the three-way chaos — let them fight.

  • Alone terminal: immediately behind your spawn — the easiest terminal in the game.
  • First Banshee: grab it, then fly to the spire top for Tough Luck (then reload your checkpoint to get down safely).
  • First conduit: the Flood/Covenant brawl is the main event. Don't commit — use the chaos, let the factions thin each other out, then mop up.
  • Second generator: Black Eye is in the Flood dead-end near the arches. The Flood Hunter (Flood Tank) fights are the new-enemy showcase here — the remake introduces Flood Tank variants in this mission.
  • Mythic: the console-door gauntlet — three rooms of enemies, everything must die, then the skull spawns. The hardest reachable collectible of the three.
Let them fight

Two Betrayals is a three-way war: Covenant vs Flood vs you. The most efficient strategy on every difficulty is to break line of sight, let the two enemy factions engage each other, and clean up the survivors. Waste ammo on the winner, not both.

Keyes — Walkthrough

Mission length: ~40-50 min · Collectibles: Catch, Blind, Piñata + Consumed terminal

The Flood cruiser. This mission is shorter than Two Betrayals but denser, and it holds the game's most notorious collectible.

  • Catch skull (Heroic+ only): the timed grav-lift grab. Speedrun the opening to the lift in under ~3 minutes, hold interact during the ascent. Full route on the skulls-3 page — do this on a dedicated run.
  • Blind: in the destroyed-Wraith corridor after entering the ship.
  • Consumed terminal: the lower docking bay ramp, right side path.
  • The ship interior: the Flood-infested corridors are shotgun territory; the Energy Sword is a strong pickup here if you have it.
  • Piñata: melee Keyes' Flood-consumed body repeatedly after the cutscene until the skull drops.
  • Escape: the final push out is a Flood rush — keep moving, sprint is your friend (unless Speed Limit is active).
Catch is the one skull that can lock you out

Catch only appears on Heroic or Legendary, only in the opening minutes, and despawns if you're slow. If you miss it, you must restart the mission from scratch — checkpoints can update past it. Plan a dedicated run with Active Camo and the Overshield.

The Maw — Walkthrough

Mission length: ~30-40 min · Collectibles: Stowed Reload, Boom, Thunderstorm + Arrival terminal

The finale: destroy the reactor, run for your life.

  • Mess hall: the Arrival terminal is in room B03L on the right — grab it before the descent.
  • Cryo room: Stowed Reload on the beam in the burning corner.
  • Engine room: destroy the four cores — Boom is on the ledge to the left of the debris on the second level.
  • The Warthog run: the iconic escape. Drive the shortcut tunnels and grab Thunderstorm in the second one. The four-seat Warthog carries your co-op squad — the driver controls the run, gunners keep the Ghosts off.
  • The final drive: the run ends with a timed push to the ship. Don't stop for anything; the "Clean Lap" achievement (no ejection) requires keeping the Hog on track.
Warthog run discipline

The escape is about momentum, not combat. The checkpoint system is generous, but every stop lets the Ghosts catch up. Take the shortcut tunnels (that's where Thunderstorm hides), keep the throttle down, and only brake for the turns you must take.

Loadouts That Work (Missions 8-10)

  • Two Betrayals: Rocket/Fuel Rod + Sniper/Beam Rifle for the outdoor sections; AR/Battle Rifle for dismounts.
  • Keyes: Shotgun + Energy Sword or Sentinel Beam; plasma weapons for shields before the Flood overwhelm.
  • The Maw: Rocket Launcher + AR/Battle Rifle, shotgun for the corridors; nothing beats speed on the final run.

Difficulty Notes

  • Two Betrayals: the three-way fights are the highlight and the hazard; Legendary makes every faction hit like a truck.
  • Keyes: short but brutal; the Flood + Covenant mix inside the cruiser is relentless on Heroic+.
  • The Maw: the Warthog run is the classic final boss; on Legendary one wrecked Hog is a run-ender.
LASO context

These three missions are where LASO runs usually die: Iron makes every death restart the level, and Catch/Tough Luck/Black Eye stack brutality on the three-way fights. The LASO guide has mission-specific survival strategies.

FAQ

How do you beat the Warthog run in Halo: Campaign Evolved? Keep momentum, take the shortcut tunnels, brake only for sharp turns, and let the turret gunner handle the Ghosts. The run ends with a timed boarding sequence.

How do you get the Catch skull in Keyes? Play on Heroic or Legendary, speedrun the opening to the gravity lift in under ~3 minutes, then hold the interact button while the lift carries you up. It despawns if you're slow.

How long is the final mission in Halo: Campaign Evolved? The Maw is roughly 30-40 minutes — one of the shorter missions, but the Warthog run is dense. Community estimate, not official.

Where is the Mythic skull? Two Betrayals, behind a console-locked door — fight through three rooms of enemies and the skull spawns in the final room.

What is the Flood Tank? A new enemy type introduced in the remake, appearing in the Two Betrayals fights — an armored Flood form that needs heavy weapons (see the weapons guide).
