Halo Campaign Evolved Missions 4-7 Walkthrough — Silent Cartographer, AotCR, 343 Guilty Spark, The Library

The middle stretch of Halo: Campaign Evolved contains the game's most iconic level (The Silent Cartographer), its longest (The Library), and the tonal pivot that made the original famous: the Flood reveal in 343 Guilty Spark. It's also where the new weapons start to matter — the Battle Rifle is first found here, and the Energy Sword becomes available in the later levels.

Official source: Xbox Wire — Halo: Campaign Evolved — "the addition of nine weapons from other titles in the Halo franchise creates an extra layer of fun."

Missions 1-3 are on the missions-1 page.

The Silent Cartographer — Walkthrough

Mission length: ~40-50 min · Collectibles: Bandana, Acrophobia, Hip Fire + Status Update terminal

The beach drop is unchanged in spirit and better in execution: the remake's draw distances make the island feel enormous.

  • Beach landing: the opening firefight is a cover-shooter tutorial. Push with the Marines, don't hang back — the Covenant waves are scripted to your position.
  • Bandana: the cave just past the first interior structure. Grab it early — infinite ammo makes the rest of the mission trivial if you want it.
  • Acrophobia: the two-Hunter arena — climb the central structure. This is the collection-game-changer skull; get it before anything else if you plan to 100%.
  • The map room: the objective that gives the level its name. The wayfinding improvements make the descent clear — follow the ramps down.
  • Security override + return: grab Status Update behind the half-wall before the objective panel. The second Hunters fight and the stealth-Elite corridor are the difficulty spikes.
  • Hip Fire: on the winding staircase near the end, drop off the edge to the ledge below.
Bandana makes this mission a sandbox

With Bandana active, you can hold the trigger forever — great for farming the combat-feat achievements (Make Them Count, Bad Gas). Just remember Bandana blocks some achievements while active (see the achievements guide).

Assault on the Control Room — Walkthrough

Mission length: ~50-70 min · Collectibles: IWHBYD, Angry, Cowbell + Tangent I terminal

Snow, tanks and the IWHBYD skull — the longest classic mission after The Library.

  • Scorpion section: take the tank and keep it. The bridge crossing with turrets and Hunters is easier with the main cannon than on foot. The IWHBYD skull requires the tank — park by the ice wall and jump from the turret.
  • Control Center Ziggurat approach: Angry sits on the furthest of the three arches. The door you actually need is nearby — don't miss the arch detour.
  • First Banshee bridge: Cowbell is under the bridge on the strut below. The Banshees here also feed the "That's My Ride" achievement (beat the Elite to the Banshee).
  • The control room: the interior is where you find the Battle Rifle in the remake — it's a pickup here for the first time. Tangent I is on the balcony of the center structure (detour, but quick).
Keep the Scorpion for IWHBYD

If you abandon the tank early, you cannot reach the IWHBYD skull — it's a one-way jump only possible from the tank turret. Grab it during the main run or come back via Chapter Select with the tank.

343 Guilty Spark — Walkthrough

Mission length: ~30-40 min · Collectibles: Fog, That's Just... Wrong, They Come Back + Tangent II terminal

The horror turn. The remake's lighting and audio design make the forest sections genuinely unsettling — the Flood reveal hits harder than it has in 25 years.

  • Forest: Fog sits on the rock bank past the crashed dropship. The atmosphere here is the mission: keep your flashlight discipline, listen for the skull whisper.
  • The facility: grab That's Just... Wrong by killing the screaming marine (there is no other way — the skulls-2 page covers it).
  • First Flood contact: your first Flood fight is a scripted horror beat — shotgun and AR are the tools. The remake's Flood behave like their modern counterparts: they rush, they flank, they reanimate.
  • Light bridge / escape: Tangent II is behind the wall at the light-bridge section. The final evac fight spawns endless Flood — They Come Back is in the dark forest to the right of the extraction structure.
Shotgun is king against the Flood

From this mission on, the shotgun never leaves your loadout until the Library ends. Flood combat forms die in one blast, and the Sentinel Beam (dropped by the drones here) melts swarms — see the weapons guide.

The Library — Walkthrough

Mission length: ~60-90 min · Collectibles: Tilt, Pop, Famine + Tangent III terminal

The infamous gauntlet — and the consensus hardest classic mission. Nothing changed about the premise: Guilty Spark walks, you fight, forever.

  • Pacing: the mission is one long descent through identical golden corridors. The remake's checkpoint density helps — deaths are less punishing than 2001.
  • Tilt: right after the service-tunnel exit, up the slope.
  • Pop: the pillar ledge opposite the door Guilty Spark unlocks.
  • Famine: the final floor, left alcove after the last elevator.
  • Combat: Sentinel Beam + shotgun is the meta loadout; the Sentinel drops from the drones fighting the Flood, and it shreds everything here. Keep moving — the Flood spawn from vents and behind you.
Do NOT stand still in The Library

The Flood spawn continuously from vents and corridors. Standing still to shoot is how you get surrounded and swarmed. Keep rotating, keep your back to a wall or Guilty Spark, and treat the shotgun/Sentinel Beam as your primary weapon. On Legendary this is a multi-hour slog — co-op is strongly recommended (see the co-op guide).

Loadouts That Work (Missions 4-7)

  • Silent Cartographer: Sniper/Beam Rifle + AR; Rocket/Fuel Rod for Hunters.
  • AotCR: Battle Rifle (first pickup) + Plasma Pistol; Rocket for tanks; Energy Sword becomes available in rooms.
  • 343 Guilty Spark: Shotgun + AR/SMG or Sentinel Beam; avoid slow weapons.
  • The Library: Shotgun/Sentinel Beam/SMG + Energy Sword or AR — speed over power.

Difficulty Notes

  • Silent Cartographer: mild on Normal; the stealth-Elite corridor and double-Hunter fights spike on Heroic+.
  • AotCR: the Banshee bridge and control-room interior are the walls; vehicles make the outdoor sections easy.
  • 343 Guilty Spark: short but intense; the first-floor "Arm's Length" achievement (no hits) is a fun challenge run.
  • The Library: the legendary wall. Budget time, bring co-op, and don't feel bad about lowering difficulty on a first run.
Remix makes these missions infinite

Once you've collected three skulls, Campaign Remix randomizes enemies and weapons across any completed mission — The Library in remix with Adaptation rolling Brutes is a wild experience. See the Campaign Remix guide.

FAQ

How do you get the Scorpion in Assault on the Control Room? The tank is given to you in the early snow section — follow the objective marker. Keep it for the IWHBYD skull jump.

What is the best weapon against the Flood in Halo: Campaign Evolved? The shotgun (one-shot combat forms) and the Sentinel Beam (drops from Sentinels, melts swarms). The Energy Sword also works in tight corridors.

Where is the Battle Rifle in Halo: Campaign Evolved? First found in Assault on the Control Room — the remake adds it as a pickup in the control-room interior.
