What Is Rubinite?
Rubinite is a boss rush action game: there's no open world, no trash mob gauntlet — the game is a chain of carefully designed boss fights against bloodthirsty monsters (the game's name for its antagonists), with the journey through the ruined Scarlet Kingdom framed by its story of Ruby trying to reach home. The presentation is dark fairy-tale pixel art with a deliberately gloomy palette.
It's a single-player only game — no co-op, no multiplayer, no crossplay — and it runs on PC and macOS.
The core fantasy is Ruby's special sight: holding Focus to charge reveals the weak points of Blood Recipients (bosses). Everything — dodges, marks, finishers — feeds into exposing and shattering those weak points.
The Focus System & Pure Blood Marks
The combat loop centers on three mechanics that chain together:
- Focus — a charge-up timing mechanic. Charging close to the enemy fills faster, but getting hit resets your charge. When Focus lands, it exposes a boss's weak point.
- Pure Blood Marks — the resource built by successful Focus charges and Perfect Dodges. You can hold up to 3 marks at once.
- Critical Thrust — the finisher that consumes your Marks to deal true damage to exposed weak points. This is the primary way to actually shatter a Blood Recipient's weak point.
Perfect Dodge deserves its own mention: dodging on the trigger frame grants an instant +1 Mark, which makes mastering dodge timing the fastest path to sustained damage. The Focus system guide covers charge timing and the Perfect Dodge frame in detail.
Hoarding Marks is a trap: the cap is three, so a charged Critical Thrust should be your default spending outlet. Builds that maximize Mark generation (see builds) rely on constant turnover.
Talismans & Blood Dust
- Blood Dust is the game's currency. It's kept on death (no run wipe), and there are bonuses for crossing half-health thresholds — an unusual risk-reward that rewards aggressive play.
- Talismans are crafted for you by Wichiwi, a character met in the world, using Blood Dust. Each talisman carries a real tradeoff (side effects), so builds are about choosing which downsides you can live with. Talisman list and costs are in the talismans guide.
Bosses
The game's ~8 bloodthirsty bosses (plus the final encounter) include:
- The Beast — the first boss of the demo, a straightforward timing check
- Guardian Faye — the demo's second boss, a rhythm-based duel
- Witch Alcina — the final boss, with a three-phase fight (details marked as to-be-verified beyond the phase count)
- Several mid-game Blood Recipients whose names are still consolidating across community sources
The boss order guide lists the recommended encounter sequence and why it matters for build progression.
True Ending & 100%
Rubinite has a true ending behind its first clear: after beating the final boss, a choice in the White Space leads into a true difficulty second playthrough with roughly 14 main-progression boss encounters, hidden boss health bars and restricted healing. Along that route you can save Roy — a character whose fate is fixed in a normal run. Clearing the true route unlocks the real conclusion against Witch Alcina.
There are 38 achievements in total. The true ending guide covers the exact route, and the achievements guide maps every unlock.
