Rubinite Boss Order — Full Boss List & Recommended Sequence

Rubinite is a boss rush, so the order of fights is the game. The normal route is a fixed story line with one flexible section, and the post-game True Difficulty route replays it with new encounters layered in. Here's the complete sequence — who you fight, where, and in what order the community actually recommends playing it.

Here's what you'll learn:

  • Exactly how many bosses Rubinite has (and how "14 encounters" adds up)
  • The full normal-route order, from the tutorial to Witch Alcina
  • The recommended order for the four Mana Source bosses
  • Every boss's key tell at a glance — and the right counter
  • Where the real difficulty walls are (Gravekeeper, Plaguebearer, Faye's rematch)
  • The true-difficulty-only encounters: Red-Eyed Tree, Puppet Master, real Alcina

How Many Bosses Are in Rubinite?

Rubinite has roughly eight named Blood Recipients on the normal route, plus the final boss Witch Alcina, a tutorial training opponent (the Bound Man, who can't die), and two true-difficulty-only bosses (the Red-Eyed Tree and the Puppet Master). Community guides count 14 major progression boss encounters across both routes combined — the 11 normal-route fights plus the true-route additions. That matches the achievements list, which has a dedicated "Defeated the ___" achievement for most named bosses.

Per the official Steam description, "Ruby's blade alone will barely wound them. Find their weak points, drive the lethal strike home, and make it out alive."

The Full Boss Order (Normal Route)

# Boss Location Notes
0 The Bound Man (tutorial) White Space / Monastery basement Immortal training dummy; teaches dodge, Focus, Marks, Thrust
1 The Beast Western Frontier First real Blood Recipient; dash, stone throws, homing attack
2 Guardian Faye (first) Great Capital Bridge Rhythm duel; repelled, she escapes — you don't kill her yet
3 Gravekeeper Hallowed Rest (South) Mace combos, poison blobs, clones, jump attack (dart check)
4 Dual Cultists Ashfrost Hamlet (North) Bird-headed Priest + summoned smaller cultist, shared HP
5 Martyred Angel (North, second) Egg phase, lava arena, eggshell defense, two HP bars
6 Plaguebearer Capital Sewers (South, second) Long body, coil poison bullets, splits into segments
7 Guardian Faye (rematch) Capital gate Two HP bars, six swords, homing orb grab, flower fields
8 The Ghost The Capital Possesses knight corpses (Grant the Knight first); fire phase
9 Roy the Hunter Capital Walls Focus is sealed at first; smoke bombs, spinning knives, daggers
10 Witch Alcina (apparent ending) Royal Capital "Maybe the End" — the real fight comes on the true route

After the credits, reloading the same save leads into the White Space and the true ending route — this is not New Game Plus, it's the story continuing.

Faye's two fights, two achievements

The demo ends with Faye repelled, which is why "Repelled the Guardian" unlocks for ~85% of players while "Defeated Faye" (the rematch kill) sits much lower on the achievement list. Don't be confused when the rematch is harder than the first fight.

After Faye's first fight, four Mana Source destinations open — two north, two south. All four are comparable in difficulty except the Plaguebearer, which is the second South boss and the game's biggest mid-game wall. The community-consensus order:

  1. Dual Cultists (North)
  2. Gravekeeper (South)
  3. Martyred Angel (North)
  4. Plaguebearer (South, saved for last)

Why save Plaguebearer? Its fight demands strong base Slash damage, more Talisman capacity, a fast-recovery Strike, and poison answers — all things you can farm from the other three bosses first. One community guide logged ~56 minutes of serious attempts and nearly 100 deaths on it, versus ~15 minutes on Gravekeeper. Farm first, suffer later.

Return to the Monastery after every boss

New rooms, memories, chests and Wichiwi recipes unlock after each Mana Source kill — including the Meditation feature (boss rematches, from the Library path) and the Belfry Key. The beginners guide covers the Hub routine; skipping the return trips is how you end up missing the true ending prerequisites.

Every Boss's Weakness at a Glance

Rubinite's three defensive answers map onto every fight. This table is the whole game:

Boss Watch for Answer
The Beast Two-swing combo → stone throw; ground spikes past 50% Dodge combo, Focus on recovery, dodge spikes (marked circles)
Faye (both fights) Delayed melee, swords, teleport, purple grab, homing orb Perfect Dodge strings, Focus on named recoveries, Sunder Slash grabs
Gravekeeper Mace combo, poison blobs (pop with light attack), jump attack, poison-dust clones Dart the aerial, dodge melee, destroy blobs or avoid the explosion
Dual Cultists Tackles, air-suck that slows movement, feather spikes, tornadoes Focus the smaller cultist, dodge feathers, Strike it when it enters the arena
Martyred Angel Egg + lava, eggshell defense, red-glowing shell pieces, grab (phase 2) Pre-stack Focus on the egg, kick it into lava, counter the grab
Plaguebearer Coil + poison bullets, shadow poison, splits into segments Stand inside the coil (safe spot), Focus only the red part, kill the small segment first
The Ghost Projectile barrage, vanishing, knight possession Dodge barrage, track it with Focus Marks, kill possessed knights fast
Roy Three-hit combo, smoke bombs, spinning knives, pillar Strike Space yourself, Perfect Dodge the combo, dodge the pillar charge
Alcina Scythe (delayed), sword (instant), purple orbs, grab hand, spears, morning star Perfect Dodge swords, Sunder Slash the hand, dart the morning star jump, dodge when she snaps her fingers

The Difficulty Walls (Community Experience)

  • The Beast — the real tutorial. If you can't read it, you can't read anything.
  • Gravekeeper — the first wall for most players (~15 minutes to crack). It's the first fight that demands the Focus-dart counter instead of dodging.
  • Plaguebearer — the longest non-final wall (~56 minutes, near 100 deaths in one logged run). The three-segment pressure phase is why you want the upgrades first.
  • Faye's rematch — two HP bars plus flower fields and a homing grab orb; the game's aggression check before the Capital.
  • Roy the Hunter — the emotional gut-punch fight: Focus is sealed for the first half, so it's pure spacing and timing.
  • Alcina — the final exam; the true-difficulty version has three phases (see below).

The True Difficulty Order (New Encounters)

On the true route, the campaign replays with changes — hidden boss health bars, restricted healing, and single-hit death. Layered into the sequence are the new encounters:

  1. Mira's event chain — Phantom Door memories between story sections (Mira's Shadow talisman protects one hit).
  2. The Red-Eyed Tree — the decisive detour: its root is what lets you save Roy at the second Roy encounter.
  3. Roy (rescue version) — if you bring the Red-Eyed Tree root, the Roy fight becomes a rescue instead of a kill.
  4. The Puppet Master — a true-route-only boss (its achievement is one of the rarest).
  5. The real Witch Alcina — three phases, with the five-slot Rubinite setting your Mark cap to infinite during the final sequence.

Full step-by-step route is in the true ending guide.
