Rubinite characters: Princess Ruby's crimson eyes, mentor Roy the Hunter, craftsman Wichiwi, final boss Witch Alcina, and true-route ally Mira.
Rubinite Characters — The Full Cast Explained (2026)
Rubinite keeps its cast deliberately small — one playable protagonist, two hub companions, one villain, and a supporting figure who only appears in the true ending. Every named character ties into combat or progression: Princess Ruby embodies the Focus mechanic, Roy gates the tutorials and one of the game's most emotional fights, Wichiwi runs the entire talisman economy, and Witch Alcina is the reason the Scarlet Kingdom fell. Here's everyone, what they do, and where they show up.

Here's what you'll learn:
- Princess Ruby's backstory and her crimson-eye power
- Roy's full arc — mentor, corrupted rival, and the rescue route
- Wichiwi's role as the hub craftsman and shopkeeper
- Witch Alcina's plan and her three-phase finale
- Mira and the true-route cast (Dark Ruby, Puppet Master, the Blood Recipients)

Princess Ruby — The Protagonist
Ruby is a princess who escaped the fall of the Scarlet Kingdom and fights to reclaim it from the witch who took it. Coverage describes her as "a tiny girl with a knife" — an agile, fragile heroine with one extraordinary ability: her crimson eyes let her see the hidden Pure Blood Crystal inside Bloodstained monsters, the weak point that ordinary eyes can't perceive.
That ability is the game's combat: holding Focus to read a Blood Recipient's weak point, stacking Marks, and shattering the crystal with Critical Thrust. Ruby's own blade "alone can barely wound them" — her power is observation, not brute force, which is the whole fantasy of the game.
The story framing: she fled the kingdom after Alcina's corruption, was saved by Roy, trained at the hidden Monastery hub, and now carves a road home. Her contrast — a cute pixel heroine against grotesque Bloodstained monsters — was the marketing hook Cup Dog Games leaned into at Steam Next Fest and BitSummit PUNCH. No other playable character exists or is announced.
All combat guides assume Ruby: knife slashes, darts, Sunder Slash, Focus, dodge, Critical Thrust. There's no character selection, no alternate protagonist — the boss rush is entirely her journey.
Roy the Hunter — Mentor, Then Rival
Roy rescued Ruby after the kingdom fell and trains her at the Monastery, handling combat tutorials and story context (walkthrough coverage also has him manage the campfire and cooking while Wichiwi runs research). In the demo he's the classic teaching NPC: he orients you before the first boss.
Then the campaign twists: after the four Mana Source bosses are cleared and the Capital gate opens, Roy goes ahead to investigate — and loses himself. When Ruby catches up in the Capital Walls, Roy is a boss fight:
- He has two health bars and a repeated three-hit combo
- Smoke bombs disturb Ruby's Focus sight
- Spinning knives linger in the air; phase two adds thrown daggers and a charged two-pillar Strike
- Critically, you cannot use Focus at all in the first phase — Ruby tries to call out to him instead; Roy, with what remains of his senses, asks Ruby to pick up the knife
On a normal run, Roy falls — one of the game's saddest beats, and the trigger for the hidden "Defeated Roy" achievement. But the true route changes his fate: by completing Mira's event chain, defeating the Red-Eyed Tree, and returning its root before the Roy fight, you can win without losing him — then fight Dark Ruby in his internal battle to free him from the Pure Blood's control. That's the "how to save Roy" question every walkthrough covers — see the true ending guide for the exact steps.
Community reports are consistent: if you reach Roy before completing the Red-Eyed Tree → Mira root chain, the bad outcome repeats. The root return is the flag the game checks — don't skip it.
Wichiwi — The Talisman Craftsman
Wichiwi (walkthrough coverage spells him "Wiwichi"; the shopkeeper name is Wichiwi in most guides — official spelling unverified) is the lizardman merchant at the Monastery who runs the game's progression economy:
- He gives Ruby the Talisman Satchel, enabling talisman equipping
- He spends Blood Dust to research talismans and expand perk slots
- Giving him Damaged Talismans (found in chests like the Broken White Talisman) unlocks new shop recipes
- After the Ghost fight, he gifts Ruby the Hatchiwi talisman (constant damage over time — strong in the Alcina battle), and on the true route he returns the Satchel with all previously acquired talismans intact
He's also the game's emotional anchor: dialogue between bosses covers campfire meals, memories of the kingdom, and the witch's ruthlessness — the "usually something new to learn after a boss has been vanquished" rhythm that reviews single out. Full crafting detail is in the talismans guide.
Blood Dust funds Wichiwi's day-to-day research; the boss-kill currency (Impure Crystals / Pure Blood, naming unverified) unlocks his advanced and legendary recipes — including the Mark of Courage chain that becomes the five-slot Legendary Rubinite talisman in the true route.
Witch Alcina — The Final Boss
Witch Alcina is the antagonist who corrupted the Scarlet Kingdom, transforming its defenders into Bloodstained monsters (the Blood Recipients), and she's confirmed as the game's final boss. The story hook: she's hunting the Rubinite, the legendary treasure that only appears under a Blood Moon — which is "tomorrow" when the Ghost falls.
As a fight, Alcina is a weapon-swapping menace:
- Scythe — delayed attacks plus a throw-and-recall pattern
- Sword — instantaneous attacks, the bread-and-butter for stacking Marks
- Morning star — melee swing into a red-flash jump (dart counter)
- Purple orb summons, a grab hand (Sunder Slash counter), and a phase two of black flames + spear volleys where the only safe ground is inside the flame circle
The first fight has two major phases and ends with the illusion "Maybe the End." The real battle — reached through the true difficulty route — is a three-phase fight (with a Blood Moon survival phase) against her full power. The boss order guide and walkthrough cover the phases in detail.
The credits after your first Alcina win are Alcina's illusion. Load the same save, reject the White Space dream, and the true route begins — that's the only path to the real three-phase fight and the Kingdom Reclaimed ending.
Mira & the True Route Cast
The true difficulty route introduces characters who don't exist on a normal run:
- Mira — the route's guide figure. Her event chain (Monastery night events, the Nun's Room, the Red-Eyed Tree investigation) unlocks the path to saving Roy. She also gives Mira's Shadow, a talisman that blocks one hit — the learning insurance for hidden-health-bar phases. Supporting dialogue with her before the finale matters for the true ending unlock.
- Dark Ruby — fought inside Roy's internal battle to release him from Pure Blood control.
- Puppet Master — a mother-puppet with two hands; the phase-3 gauntlet that punishes greedy charges (a documented wall on the true route).
- Red-Eyed Tree — the prerequisite boss whose root must be returned to Mira before Roy can be saved.
The Blood Recipients (Bosses)
Beyond the named cast, the game's ~8 Blood Recipients are the corrupted defenders of the kingdom — the tutorial Bound Man/Undying, the demo stars The Beast and Guardian Faye, the four Mana Source bosses (Gravekeeper, Dual Cultists, Martyred Angel, Plaguebearer), the Ghost (after Grant the Knight), and Roy himself. Full roster, order, and lore placement live in the boss order guide.
