Quasimorphosis Guide — Horror Meter, Eccolapse & Baron Survival

Quasimorphosis is the systemic horror layer that separates Quasimorph from a standard tactical roguelike. On horror-capable stations, a meter rises with mission time and kills until the station reacts — killed enemies reanimate as quasimorphs, layouts stop being trustworthy, and at the extreme the Baron comes hunting you. Version 1.0 (Steam, July 31, 2026) tightens this loop into the campaign's main risk resource: respect the meter and it's tension; ignore it and the Baron collects another clone.

This is the mechanics page. If you're mid-run and just need to survive, jump to the extraction guide for the leave-now decision loop, or read the campaign walkthrough for which story beats push you into horror space.

Here's what you'll learn:

  • What Quasimorphosis is and where it never triggers (Absentia moons)
  • What raises the meter: time, kills, flesh, blood, and pacts
  • Meter stages: Bramfaturas events, Eccolapse, and the 1000-Baron threshold
  • How to reduce Quasimorphosis (cigarettes, sorbets, loadout tools, mission locks)
  • Loadout and movement doctrine for horror runs

What Is Quasimorphosis?

Quasimorphosis is the station's reaction to your presence — measured on a Grasp-style meter that climbs as you spend turns and kill hostiles on eligible stations. On beginner destinations (Mars, Phobos, Deimos — the "Absentia" moons), the meter never accumulates and no horror events trigger; that's why every onboarding path keeps new players there until extraction discipline is automatic.

Everywhere else, aggressive mission types let the meter climb toward eccolapse and Rapture pressure.

What Raises the Quasimorphosis Meter

  • Time on station — every turn inside the facility pushes systemic pressure. Slow methodical clears are tactically safer but feed the horror clock.
  • Kills — eliminating hostiles adds meter progress beyond time alone. Aggressive room clearing accelerates Quasimorphosis even with perfect AP management.
  • Eating flesh — raw or cooked meat, blood, and some canned goods add Quasimorphosis on active stations. It's free calories in Absentia and a meter tax outside it. (Ordinary food and water don't.)
  • Pacts and metamorph skills — many S.K.U.L.L. pacts raise baseline or accelerate the climb; activating pact Q-skills typically adds more. See the pacts guide.
Flesh is not free food on horror runs

Meat solves calories while spending meter. Eat it when starvation is the immediate threat or you're intentionally prepping a Baron; avoid it when ordinary food covers the route. Isabella Capet's infection immunity doesn't remove the meter cost — only the infection risk.

Meter Stages: Bramfaturas, Eccolapse, and the Baron

As the meter climbs, the station escalates:

  • Bramfaturas events — horror events tied to non-Absentia stations that add unpredictable environmental and encounter spikes beyond normal patrol tables. Faction territory sets the baseline; Bramfaturas layer horror on top.
  • Eccolapse — the phase where pressure turns: killed creatures can be torn apart and replaced by a Quasimorph, which is invulnerable while phasing in on its first turn. Layout reliability decays and ambient threat density rises. The invulnerable turn is your free reposition — don't waste ammo on it.
  • 1000 Quasimorphosis = the Baron. At the extreme, a Baron entity is alerted and comes hunting you. Killing it resets the meter to 100 (the new minimum) and drops a S.K.U.L.L. skull you can absorb for a pact.
Extract-before-1000 is a rule, not a suggestion

Unless you prepared a Baron fight (cleared room, dual damage types, medkit queue), the 1000 threshold is your leave signal. Killing the Baron does not make the floor safe — surviving quasimorphs still chase you to the elevator.

How to Reduce Quasimorphosis

Reduction is limited and should be spent to protect a route, not to enable greed:

  • Cigarettes / Anti-Quasi Cigarettes — the community-standard reducer (a single cigarette is reported to cut the meter by roughly 100). Church of Revelation rewards stockpile them.
  • Sorbets and antibiotics — handle infection, which accelerates on wounded clones; keep the wound side of the ledger clean.
  • Morphine + NOX combination — community loadouts treat these as a large combined reduction package (reported around -400 total); exact values live in tooltips and vary with balance patches.
  • Cyborg Head augment — reduces Quasimorphosis generation (shown as minus on the meter) at the cost of 5 max health, field of view, and resistances. A sacrifice pick for Baron avoidance.
  • Mission locksDefence, Control, and Security mission types lock the meter at zero for the entire run, even on horror stations. Assault and Loot allow normal climb.
Defence/Control/Security are your safe farming lanes

Farm faction reputation and complete story beats on meter-locked contracts, saving assault and loot missions for when you actually need horror-active drop tables. The factions guide leans on this for rep grinding.

Surviving Eccolapse and the Baron

  • Sneak-first movement. Sprint blocks doors and inventory, costs 3 AP per tile, and applies accuracy penalties — exactly wrong when the map can change behind you. Default to Sneak in uncertain territory, Walk through confirmed tiles, Sprint only on verified extract corridors.
  • Refresh examine data. Quasimorphosis encounters include variants that look familiar but behave differently. Re-examine enemies and interactive tiles after map shifts.
  • Anchor door discipline. Identify the last friendly door you can retreat through and update it every sector. Never advance beyond two uncleared sectors without updating the anchor.
  • Baron fight checklist: objective complete, route to elevator open, cleared fight position, enough food and treatment, and a weapon that actually damages it — inspect its resistances first and abandon the plan if damage type is wrong.

Loadout Prep for Horror Runs

Before entering Quasimorphosis-capable space:

  • Plan two damage types (robots resist pierce/blunt/fire, die to cut) — see the builds guide.
  • Craft stabilize-all medkits and queue them on the Magnum.
  • Pack reduction items only if the destination has active Q pressure — on Absentia moons they're wasted slots.
  • Mock weight in the Loadout Planner so paths lengthening mid-run don't trap you.
  • Set an extract threshold before you open the first door: mission item secured + retreat path + one crisis covered.

Official source: per the official wiki's Quasimorphosis page, killing the Baron reduces the meter to 100 and grants a S.K.U.L.L. pact — the baseline facts every survival plan builds on.

Quasimorphosis and Storylines

The five 1.0 storylines intersect horror stations at different beats — Civil Resistance and Tezctlan lean on meter-locked contracts early, while RealWare's robot floors and the Unchained Belt's Ship of Ghouls assume you can handle sustained pressure. The all endings guide notes which beats tolerate meter climb and which reward Defence-type locks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Quasimorphosis in Quasimorph?

It's the horror meter that climbs with mission time and kills on non-Absentia stations, triggering Bramfaturas events, eccolapse (killed enemies reanimating as quasimorphs), and Baron encounters at extreme values.

How do I reduce Quasimorphosis?

Use cigarettes/Anti-Quasi Cigarettes (community-reported ~-100 each), sorbets and antibiotics for the infection side, Morphine+NOX packages, the Cyborg Head augment, or pick Defence/Control/Security missions that lock the meter at zero.

What happens at 1000 Quasimorphosis?

A Baron entity is alerted and hunts you. Killing it resets the meter to 100 and drops a S.K.U.L.L. skull for a pact — but without prep, 1000 is your leave signal.

Which missions lock Quasimorphosis at zero?

Defence, Control, and Security mission types lock the meter for the entire run even on horror stations. Assault and Loot allow normal climb. Absentia moons never accumulate it regardless.

Does eating meat raise Quasimorphosis?

On active-Q missions, yes — raw meat, cooked meat, and blood add meter. On Mars/Phobos/Deimos (Absentia) flesh is just food and infection risk.

Can I avoid Quasimorphosis entirely?

Stay on Absentia moons, or run only meter-locked mission types. Story progression eventually pushes into horror-capable stations, so learn the survival loop before the campaign demands it.
