Zaheer Avatar Legends Guide — Moves, Combos & Red Lotus Strategy (2026)

Zaheer is Avatar Legends' aerial assassin — and its only true assist character. His three Red Lotus companions (P'Li, Ming Hua and Ghazan) don't stand on the sideline like everyone else's supports: they step into the fight as active combat assists, turning a 1v1 into something closer to Marvel vs. Capcom. Combined with free flight, Zaheer controls the air like nobody else on the 12-fighter launch roster — full roster context is in the character guides index. He's the highest-ceiling character in the game — and the hardest to play. This guide covers his full kit.

Here's what you'll learn:

  • Zaheer's full moveset: specials, Flow moves and command normals
  • The Red Lotus assist system — inputs, cooldowns and EX calls
  • How Flight works and the movement options it unlocks
  • His supers and Critical Hits (including the Red Lotus team attack)
  • Combos, strategy, and which support to pick

Zaheer's Playstyle: the Aerial Assassin

Revealed July 17, 2026, Zaheer "combines flight, devastating airbending mixups, and Red Lotus companions... who step directly into battle rather than providing passive buffs" — per the official reveal coverage. Where every other fighter picks a support for passive buffs, Zaheer's P'Li, Ming Hua and Ghazan attack the opponent for him.

His identity in three lines:

  • He owns the air. Free flight (j.Flow) lets him attack from angles nobody else reaches; forward air Flow becomes a diving strike, backward air Flow buys altitude.
  • He loses when grounded. Zaheer's grounded game is deliberately weaker than Aang's — his whole plan is to return to flight immediately.
  • He wins through pressure. His toolkit is speed, positioning and relentless aerial mixups, with Red Lotus assists extending combos and locking down neutral.

The dev team calls him the roster's most technically complex fighter, and the community agrees: early tier discussion places him high (A-tier territory at launch, per competitive-community ranking discussions) if you can execute — beginners will struggle. If you're new to the game entirely, start with the how to play guide and a simpler character first.

Zaheer Moveset and Specials

All inputs assume facing right; quarter-circle motions only.

Specials:

Move Input Notes
Piercing Gust 236 + A/B/C Staff thrust; C version has a follow-up: Sweeping Gust (C during C Piercing Gust)
EX Piercing Gust 236 + any 2 buttons 1 Energy; enhanced staff thrust with much more range
Call of the Red Lotus 214 + A/B/C (air OK) Summons Ming Hua (A), P'Li (B) or Ghazan (C) to attack; air versions differ
EX Call of the Red Lotus 214 + any 2 buttons (air OK) 2 Energy; summons your selected support for an enhanced attack
Airburst (air) B + C Kicks backward with a burst of air; Ground Bounce on hit; also an aerial mobility tool
Glider Attack (air) 236 + A/B/C Dives from three angles: A descends diagonally, B straight ahead, C ascends
EX Glider Attack (air) 236 + any 2 buttons 2 Energy; launching glider strike, Flow-cancelable on contact

The SuperCombo wiki emphasizes Zaheer's "surprisingly strong midrange buttons" and calls his j.D Flight plus 214X calls "powerful pressure sequences" — his neutral revolves around those two tools.

Flight, Flow Moves and Command Normals

Zaheer's movement set is uniquely air-focused:

  • Flight (air Flow) — free flight in any direction; attacks while moving gain momentum; all aerial basic techniques are Flow-cancelable at any time (his core combo engine)
  • Flight Cancel (during Flight, Flow) — instantly drops out of flight (used for timing mixes and re-approaches)
  • Front Flip (f + Flow) — forward flip, avoids lows, quick mid-air recovery
  • Back Flip (b + Flow) — same, backwards
  • Roll (d + Flow) — rolls into a ball, avoiding highs, passes through opponents
  • Windfall (f + C) — standing axe kick that hits downed opponents
  • Updraft (b + C) — somersault launcher that takes you and the opponent airborne for a follow-up
Flight costs Flow — budget it

Every Flight entry drains the Flow gauge. Zaheer's Critical Hit "Untethered" (P'Li hit 3 times) removes the Flow cost for Flight, which is the signal that the devs expect flight to be a managed resource, not a constant state.

The Red Lotus Assist System

This is what makes Zaheer unique. 214A/B/C calls a Red Lotus member (air OK — air calls behave differently), and each call starts a short cooldown before you can call again. If your assist gets hit by the opponent, the cooldown doubles — a real punish for sloppy assist usage.

The three assists:

  • Ming Hua (214A) — Waterbending attacks. Grounded: hits 3 times. Air: causes a Ground Bounce. EX call attacks from directly above.
  • P'Li (214B) — Combustion Blast beams. Larger beam size with her support upgrade; EX call fires a series of 3 beams. The SuperCombo wiki calls EX P'Li a powerful, if expensive, "I win neutral" call.
  • Ghazan (214C) — Lava Burst. Grounded: attacks earlier and longer. Air: fires his lava shuriken earlier. EX call sends the shuriken in a star pattern.

The EX call (214 + any 2 buttons) is different from the regular calls — it summons your selected support character (the one you picked on the character select screen) for an enhanced version of their attack, regardless of which button you pressed.

Don't call assists on autopilot

A Red Lotus member hit by the opponent doubles your cooldown, which shuts down your pressure for several seconds. Call assists on your offense, not in scrambles — or the opponent will punish the cooldown window.

Zaheer Supers and Critical Hits

Supers:

  • Void Strike236 + A+B+C, 4 Energy. An airbending staff combo; on connect it's a hard knockdown.
  • Tyrant's Demise214 + A+B+C (air OK), 7 Energy, invulnerable startup. The synchronized Red Lotus team attack — Zaheer launches the opponent and the whole Red Lotus wails on them. The aerial version doesn't hard knockdown.

Tyrant's Demise is packed with fan-service: against Aang he says "It's time for you to find your own path. Freedom awaits," against Korra "You say your power has limits, I say it's limitless," and against Ozai — "No more tyrants!"

Critical Hits:

  • Untethered — P'Li struck 3 times by the opponent (nod to her death in "Enter the Void"): Flight costs no Flow for the rest of the round
  • United — all three Red Lotus members land a hit in one round: +1 Energy, once per round
  • Cunning — hit a grounded opponent with Airburst: higher bounce +1 Energy, once per round
  • Agile — evade a low attack with forward Flow: +1 Energy, once per round

"United" rewards using all three assists in a round — the game's way of teaching you his full kit.

Zaheer Combos and Strategy

Launch-window route principles (from the SuperCombo wiki and community labs):

  • Assist-extended pressure: midrange 5B/5C buttons → 214B P'Li call to lock them down → follow with flight approach. P'Li is the go-to neutral assist.
  • Air combo core: jump-in → aerial normals (all Flow-cancelable) → Airburst ground-bounce → Glider Attack to chase → assist call to extend → ender.
  • Corner-to-corner juggles: his flight lets him carry opponents across the full stage; community footage shows long aerial juggles off a single launcher (Updraft or Airburst).
  • EX meter dump: EX P'Li (2 Energy) is the "I win neutral" button — a huge combustion beam that forces a Flow option or a jump, then convert with flight.

The universal Energy, EX and Flow-cancel rules these routes rely on are explained in the combos guide; meter math (5 Energy cap, 2-Energy EX calls) matters a lot when you chain three assists into a 4-Energy Void Strike.

Learn to convert off Airburst

Airburst's Ground Bounce is Zaheer's best combo starter. Practice the air B+C → land → Glider Attack chase loop until it's automatic — it's the conversion that separates good Zaheers from great ones.

Zaheer vs. tall characters: his aerial pressure is especially brutal against large hitboxes like Kyoshi's — the community noted during the reveal that his air confirms connect from heights that would whiff on smaller fighters.

Which Zaheer Support Should You Pick?

Zaheer is unique in that his selected support (on the character select screen) matters less for your move list and more for the EX call:

  • P'Li — the community's default recommendation. Her EX beam is the best "win neutral" button in his kit, and the support upgrade makes her Combustion Blast unduckable.
  • Ming Hua — best for aerial combo extensions; her extra hit meaningfully increases damage in the air routes.
  • Ghazan — for players who use Lava Burst to punish landings; the speed upgrade makes the assist much harder to interrupt.

Pick P'Li to start, switch to Ming Hua when you're optimizing air damage, and Ghazan for matchup-specific landing traps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Zaheer good in Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game?

High-tier at launch with genuine upside — but only in the right hands. His flight and Red Lotus assists give him unique pressure and the game's deepest combos; his weaker grounded game and assist-cooldown management make him a poor beginner pick.

How do Zaheer's Red Lotus assists work?

214A/B/C summons Ming Hua (water), P'Li (combustion) or Ghazan (lava) — ground and air versions differ, and each call starts a cooldown that doubles if the assist gets hit. The EX call (214 + 2 buttons) summons your selected support for an enhanced attack.

How do you fly with Zaheer in Avatar Legends?

Press Flow mid-air to enter free flight and move in any direction. Attacks while flying gain momentum, and every aerial normal is Flow-cancelable. Flight costs Flow gauge, so budget your time airborne.

Which Zaheer support is best — P'Li, Ming Hua or Ghazan?

P'Li for neutral control (her EX call is the best in his kit), Ming Hua for aerial combo damage, Ghazan for landing traps. Most players start with P'Li.

Is Zaheer hard to play in Avatar Legends?

Yes — the developers themselves call him the most technically complex character: free flight, three active assists to manage, and combo routes that demand constant input discipline. Expect a real lab investment before he pays off.
