Subnautica Below Zero Mercury II wreck guide: coordinates for all three sections, how to get inside with the Laser Cutter, and every fragment and databox.
Subnautica Mercury II — Wreck Coordinates, Entry and All Loot
The Mercury II is a crashed Sol Trans-gov spacecraft in Subnautica: Below Zero, broken into three wreck sections — a stern at ~100 m depth on the Purple Vents/Tree Spires border, a bow at ~250 m in the Lily Pad Islands, and a detached thruster at ~150 m over a Purple Vents crevasse. Like the Aurora, it was shot down by the planet's Quarantine Enforcement Platform; unlike the Aurora, its story is told through crew logs, an alien containment room, and a reactor that never finished failing. You'll need a Laser Cutter for most rooms, and the rewards are the Parallel Processing Unit fragments, Prawn Suit Mk.III fragments, and the full crew-log lore. This guide covers coordinates, the entry route, and everything inside.
Here's what you'll learn:
- Exact coordinates for all three wreck sections
- What to bring (Laser Cutter mandatory, Propulsion Cannon optional)
- Every fragment, scannable and loot cache by section
- The crew's story, told through the databank logs

Per the official Subnautica Wiki: "Detecting stern of an astronautical Sol Transgov vessel nearby. Vessel name: Mercury II. Inoperative." The PDA's line when you approach the stern wreck sets the tone — everything on board is dead, and everything worth having is behind sealed doors.
Where Is the Mercury II?
Three sections, three sets of coordinates (in-game X/Y/Z, from the official wiki):
| Section | Coordinates | Depth | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stern | 75, -40, -888 | ~100 m | Edge of the Purple Vents / Tree Spires, ~400 m southeast of the Delta Island dock beacon |
| Bow | 270, -217, -1334 | ~250 m | Lily Pad Islands, ~1,500 m south-southeast of the Drop Pod |
| Detached Thruster | 474, -151, -630 | ~150 m | At the edge of the Purple Vents, over a crevasse |
The stern is the right first stop — it's the shallowest, closest to Delta Island, and holds the largest share of early loot. The bow is the reward — it contains the Alien Containment room, the P.R.A.W.N. Bay with two damaged Prawn Suits, and the ship's Bridge. The thruster is a quick data-and-fragment grab.
All three sections sit in the southern half of Sector Zero, near the Purple Vents, Lily Pad Islands and Tree Spires biomes. Our Below Zero map guide has the full biome coordinates, depth ranges and the safe routes between them.
How to Get Inside
The Mercury II is a wreck, not a sealed ship — entry is open, but progress is gated:
- Laser Cutter — required to open most of the sealed doors and the fragment cases. Bring one with a full battery; the Laser Cutter blueprint comes from early-game fragments in Below Zero's kelp and shallow biomes.
- Propulsion Cannon (optional) — moves the debris blocking some rooms (the Ship Crew Log 2 room, one of the Nuclear Reactor Area rooms, and the reactor-adjacent loot room). A shortcut through vents works too, but the cannon is easier.
- Swim speed penalty — the wiki notes your movement speed drops significantly inside any of the wreckage; don't plan to out-swim anything in there (the bow is Squidshark territory).
The bow wreck at 250 m sits in the Lily Pad Islands "in an area surrounded by Squidsharks," per the wiki. Park your Seatruck or vehicle outside, check the patrol routes, and enter the wreck in short dashes — the interior is safe, the approach is not.
Stern Wreck (75, -40, -888)
The shallowest and most loot-dense section:
- Engine Room — a Parallel Processing Unit Fragment behind a panel (Laser Cutter); another PPU fragment southeast of the engines, below an Oxygen Plant.
- Ship Crew Log 2 Room — a Reactor Rod in a sealed Supply Crate behind debris; use the Propulsion Cannon or the hole route.
- Loot in crates — 2 Power Cells, 3 Batteries, 2 Disinfected Water, 2 Nutrient Blocks, plus Copper Wire, Titanium Ingots and Wiring Kits scattered around.
- Fragments — Laser Cutter fragments and Parallel Processing Unit fragments (three PPU fragments across the stern and bow are scannable without the Laser Cutter).
- Databank logs — "Glowing Picnic - Yasmine" and "Thruster Repair - Stefanos" tell the crew's human story (Stefanos' jailbroken fabricator makes traditional Greek dishes — including falafel for Yasmine).
- Fauna — Spinefish patrol inside.
Bow Wreck (270, -217, -1334)
The big one, worth a full exploration run:
- Nuclear Reactor Area — two Reactor Rods (one near a rusted Nuclear Reactor, one in a debris-blocked room reachable via the Alien Containment vent), a sealed Parallel Processing Unit Fragment, and Synthetic Fibers in a sealed crate above.
- Alien Containment Room — a full Alien Containment to scan, Chinese Potatoes, an Exterior Growbed to scan, and the vents that shortcut the rest of the ship.
- Bridge — the ship's command deck with a Jukebox Disk and a Parallel Processing Unit Fragment.
- P.R.A.W.N. Bay — two damaged Prawn Suits inside plus one outside the port; Prawn Suit Mk.III fragments and Drill Arm fragments are the prizes; two more Reactor Rods in sealed crates.
- Crew Quarters — the cafeteria (Water Filtration Machine to scan, three supply crates, a PPU fragment), dormitories, and a Reinforced Dive Suit on one bunk.
- Databank logs — "Captain Badass - Diana" (the captain on the energy beam that nearly destroyed the ship) and the rest of the crew's final days.
Detached Thruster (474, -151, -630)
The smallest section: fragments, a few crates and the thruster-repair story beats (Stefanos' log mentions "gigantic worms burrowing in the ice" — a nod to the Ice Worm biome). Quick in-and-out; don't skip it if you're collecting all the databank entries.
Per the official wiki and the crew logs inside, the Mercury II was a Sol Trans-gov vessel, roughly 30–100 years old (the wiki's development notes lean ~30 years based on the Prawn Mk.III fragments). Like the Aurora and Degasi before it, it was shot down by the Quarantine Enforcement Platform — and then destroyed again when the crew attempted takeoff. Every log you collect fills in that timeline.
Loot Checklist
One pass per section covers everything:
- Parallel Processing Unit fragments — sealed cases in all three sections; three total are scannable without the Laser Cutter
- Prawn Suit Mk.III + Drill Arm fragments — bow's P.R.A.W.N. Bay
- Reinforced Dive Suit — bow's Crew Quarters bunk
- Reactor Rods — 4–5 across the stern and bow
- Scannables — Alien Containment, Nuclear Reactor, Nuclear Waste Disposal, Water Filtration Machine, Exterior Growbed, desks and chairs
- Loot crates — Power Cells, Batteries, Disinfected Water, Nutrient Blocks, Synthetic Fibers, Chinese Potatoes, Wiring Kits, Titanium Ingots, a Jukebox Disk
The bow requires the deepest dive and holds the best rewards. Sequence the run: stern (shallow, quick loot) → thruster (databank) → bow (full sweep with the Laser Cutter and Propulsion Cannon). By the time you're at the bow you'll have the fragments you need to make the deeper dive comfortable.
FAQ
Where is the Mercury II in Subnautica?
It's Below Zero content, split into three sections: the stern at (75, -40, -888) on the Purple Vents/Tree Spires border, the bow at (270, -217, -1334) in the Lily Pad Islands, and a detached thruster at (474, -151, -630) over a Purple Vents crevasse.
How do I get inside the Mercury II?
The sections are open wrecks — you swim in. Most rooms and fragment cases need a Laser Cutter; a Propulsion Cannon optionally clears debris-blocked rooms. Your swim speed drops inside, so don't expect to dodge anything in there.
What loot is in the Mercury II?
Parallel Processing Unit fragments (three scannable without the Laser Cutter), Prawn Suit Mk.III and Drill Arm fragments in the bow's P.R.A.W.N. Bay, a Reinforced Dive Suit in the Crew Quarters, 4–5 Reactor Rods, and crates with Power Cells, Batteries, Synthetic Fibers, Water and Nutrient Blocks.
What happened to the Mercury II?
It was a Sol Trans-gov ship shot down by the Quarantine Enforcement Platform — like the Aurora and Degasi — and then destroyed again during an attempted takeoff. The crew logs recovered from the wreck tell the full story.
Do I need a Laser Cutter for the Mercury II?
Yes — it's required for most sealed doors and fragment cases across all three sections. Bring a Propulsion Cannon as well if you want every loot room without taking vent shortcuts.
