Subnautica Fiber Mesh guide: the 2 Creepvine Sample recipe, where to farm Creepvine, and every item it crafts — from First Aid Kits to Rebreather.
Subnautica Fiber Mesh — How to Craft It and Every Recipe It's In
Fiber Mesh is crafted from 2 Creepvine Samples at the Fabricator, and Creepvine grows in the Kelp Forest — the biome with the tall glowing vines and the Stalkers that will happily eat you while you harvest. It's the backbone of the early-mid game: the First Aid Kit, the Radiation Suit, the Rebreather and Synthetic Fibers all need it, which means you'll be back to the Kelp Forest more than once. This guide covers the recipe, the fastest way to farm Creepvine Samples, every recipe that consumes Fiber Mesh, and the exact quantities you need for the Radiation Suit before you touch the Aurora.
Here's what you'll learn:
- The exact Fiber Mesh recipe and where Creepvine grows
- How to farm Creepvine samples fast (and dodge Stalkers)
- Every item that uses Fiber Mesh, with quantities
- How much you need for the Radiation Suit and early gear
- Fiber Mesh vs Synthetic Fibers — the difference

The Fiber Mesh Recipe
Craft Fiber Mesh at the Fabricator under Basic Materials:
| Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|
| Creepvine Sample | 2 |
| Result | 1 Fiber Mesh |
Per the official Subnautica Wiki: "The Fiber Mesh is a Basic Material made from Creepvine Samples. Its most important role is in crafting First Aid Kits, and it is also used in several key equipment recipes in the early game such as the Radiation Suit and Rebreather."
There's no shortcut and no alternative recipe — Creepvine Samples are the only source. Each sample is harvested with a knife from a Creepvine in the Kelp Forest, and each vine stalk gives one sample per slash.
Where to Find Creepvine and How to Farm It
Creepvines are the tall, glowing green vines that define the Kelp Forest biome — the same place Stalkers patrol, so harvest with your head on a swivel. The vines appear in two forms:
- Creepvine (no pods) — regular stalks; knife them for Creepvine Samples (the Fiber Mesh ingredient).
- Creepvine Seed Cluster — the glowing orange pods; knife them for Creepvine Seed Clusters, the ingredient for Lubricant (needed for the Seaglide, Propulsion Cannon, Cyclops, etc.). Also plantable to grow your own vines.
Plant a Creepvine Seed Cluster in an Exterior Growbed (or an Alien Containment planter — see our Alien Containment guide) and it grows into a full vine you can knife at will. Two or three planted vines give you an infinite Fiber Mesh and Lubricant supply without ever visiting the Kelp Forest again — the same renewable-farming trick that works for Gel Sacks in our Aerogel guide.
For one trip, take a knife into the nearest Kelp Forest and slash 6–8 vines — that's 3–4 Fiber Mesh, which covers your early needs. Stalkers attack on sight but are slow and noisy; the Seaglide dash you'd use for Crashfish (see our cave sulfur guide) works just as well to break contact.
Every Recipe That Uses Fiber Mesh
| Product | Machine | Fiber Mesh needed |
|---|---|---|
| First Aid Kit | Fabricator | 1 |
| Radiation Suit (all 3 pieces) | Fabricator | 2 per piece = 6 total |
| Rebreather | Fabricator | 1 |
| Medical Kit Fabricator (wall mount) | Habitat Builder | 1 (plus 1 Computer Chip, 1 Silver Ore, 1 Titanium) |
| Synthetic Fibers | Fabricator | 1 (plus 1 Benzene) |
| Basic Double Bed | Habitat Builder | 1 |
| Quilted Double Bed | Habitat Builder | 1 |
The Radiation Suit math (the one that surprises people)
The Radiation Suit is three separate pieces (suit, gloves, helmet), and each piece costs 2 Fiber Mesh + 2 Lead:
| Piece | Fiber Mesh | Lead |
|---|---|---|
| Radiation Suit | 2 | 2 |
| Radiation Gloves | 2 | 2 |
| Radiation Helmet | 2 | 2 |
| Total | 6 | 6 |
That's 12 Creepvine Samples (plus 6 Lead) just for the suit. It's the biggest early Fiber Mesh sink, and it's required for the Aurora — the full ship checklist is in our Aurora codes guide.
Synthetic Fibers = 1 Benzene + 1 Fiber Mesh, crafted later in the game (Benzene comes from Blood Oil, found in the Blood Kelp Zone). It's the ingredient for the Reinforced Dive Suit and Prawn Suit upgrades. Don't confuse the two — recipes that call for Synthetic Fibers will not accept Fiber Mesh and vice versa.
FAQ
How do I get Fiber Mesh in Subnautica?
Craft it at the Fabricator from 2 Creepvine Samples. Harvest the samples with a knife from Creepvines in the Kelp Forest.
Where do I find Creepvine samples?
In the Kelp Forest biome — knife the tall glowing vines. Vines with orange pods give Creepvine Seed Clusters (for Lubricant); plain stalks give Creepvine Samples. Planting seed clusters in a growbed gives you a renewable supply.
What is Fiber Mesh used for in Subnautica?
First Aid Kits, the 3-piece Radiation Suit (2 per piece), the Rebreather, the Medical Kit Fabricator, Synthetic Fibers (with Benzene), and the Basic/Quilted Double Beds.
How much Fiber Mesh do I need for the Radiation Suit?
6 total — 2 Fiber Mesh + 2 Lead for each of the three pieces (Suit, Gloves, Helmet). That's 12 Creepvine Samples.
Is Fiber Mesh the same as Synthetic Fibers?
No. Fiber Mesh = 2 Creepvine Samples. Synthetic Fibers = 1 Benzene + 1 Fiber Mesh, a separate late-game material used for the Reinforced Dive Suit.
