Pass the Fear Bosses Guide — Every Known Boss and How to Handle Them

Pass the Fear's bosses are the run's report cards: they test whether your route produced enough power, and they are the primary source of Soul Shards — the currency behind Squad Points. This guide collects everything currently documented about the boss roster: the demo-era closers, the launch additions confirmed in official patch notes and playthroughs, and the general strategies that apply to all of them. Boss patterns are still being documented by the community as of mid-August 2026, so anything beyond the confirmed roster is labeled as community-observed.

The Confirmed Roster So Far

The full release has five chapters (the demo's 2.5 plus 2.5 new) plus hidden stages, and a boss roster that grew across demo and launch patches. Confirmed names, from the official patch notes, the June 14 launch announcement, and launch playthroughs:

Boss Where you meet them Confirmed by
Scholar Raven Demo closer at Air Harbor; the full game continues past this fight into the Upper Residences Official launch announcement
Little Potted Plant A boss since the demo; patch 2.27 fixed its knockback Demo patch notes
Master Magician A boss since the demo; patch 2.27 fixed a barrel that could fly out of the map Demo patch notes
Celebration! Launch-era boss; patch 7.25 documented a known issue after defeating it Patch 7.25 notes
Corpse Collector Launch boss; its Arrow Rain could one-shot players (fixed in 8.7), summons nerfed in 7.25 Patch 8.7 / 7.25 notes
Sins of Weaverlock Launch boss that creates a slime add; slime cleanup fixed in 7.27 Patch 7.27 notes
Wavelock (Stand as One: the Three Knights) A fusion-style boss; patch 7.26 fixed it being killed before fusing Patch 7.26 notes

One source also names Alicia, the World's Treasure Diva as the final-boss encounter in the launch playthroughs — treat the exact spelling and the broader hidden/secret boss roster as community-documented until more official material confirms it.

Boss documentation is still firming up

This is a three-week-old game with aggressive patch cadence. The roster above is every boss name with at least one credible confirmation; pattern-by-pattern breakdowns will fill in as community documentation matures.

General Boss Strategy: This Is a Reading Test

Launch-week guides (including the 10 Advanced Tips breakdown) converge on the same advice: treat bosses as a pattern-reading test, not a reflex test.

  • Memorize the pattern, then move in small increments. Spamming long dodges throws you out of the arena's rhythm; small positional adjustments thread the needle and keep your damage output steady.
  • Watch for ground AoEs and phase shifts. Several bosses have two-phase fights with a pillar/arena mechanic — the phase transition is usually the telegraph window.
  • The build matters more than the dodging. A boss becomes trivial when your weapon, affixes and relic pile agree with each other. The best builds guide has the templates that delete health bars; the One-Shot Melt family exists for exactly this moment.
  • Elites are practice. Mid-boss elite rooms (including the coin-event mid-bosses players can choose between) run the same pattern logic and are the best training ground before chapter bosses.
The final-shot window is a real thing

One-Shot Melt builds (Final Shot affixes) are disproportionately strong against bosses because boss fights give you clean, predictable moments to empty a magazine. Save the finisher window for the pattern gap, not the bullet storm.

Scholar Raven and the Demo-to-Full-Release Handoff

Scholar Raven closed the demo at Air Harbor, and the official launch announcement explicitly names it as the handoff point:

Per the official launch announcement: "After defeating Scholar Raven at the Air Harbor, the squad stepped into the Upper Residences — a land overrun by chaos and monsters, where madness hangs thick in the air."

For demo veterans, Scholar Raven is the "you know this game" checkpoint: the full game's difficulty curve assumes you can clear it, and the content after it (Upper Residences onward) is where the launch bosses above live. If you are coming from the demo, treat a Scholar Raven clear as the warm-up, not the test.

What Bosses Drop

  • Soul Shards — bosses are the primary source of the meta currency spent on Squad Points at the hub (full breakdown in the progression guide).
  • Difficulty unlocks — clearing Hard (beating the final boss on Hard) unlocks Nightmare, Hell and Reality together since patch 7.26. See the difficulty guide.
  • Pearls (Reality) — in Reality difficulty, after defeating a boss and choosing a Pearl, you can now press TAB to open your inventory (patch 7.26) — a Quality-of-Life change that confirms the Pearl-picking flow happens right after boss kills.
  • Better loot on higher tiers — higher difficulties raise drop rates for high-quality items, so the same boss fight pays out differently depending on your tier.

Bosses in Co-op vs Solo

The boss fights themselves are the same, but two rules change the experience:

  1. Revive safety net — in co-op a downed player can be revived, and the run only ends when the whole squad is down. A boss fight that is run-ending solo becomes recoverable with a teammate.
  2. Role split — the DPS panel makes boss fights a team problem: one player holds aggro/pattern attention while another stacks statuses and a third unloads damage. The co-op guide has the full role division.
Boss health scales with the party

Community reports consistently note that bosses get noticeably tankier with more players. The co-op boss is not "the same fight with friends" — bring a build that actually does damage, not just more bodies.

FAQ

How many bosses are in Pass the Fear?

The exact count is not officially published. Confirmed so far: Scholar Raven, Little Potted Plant, Master Magician, Celebration!, Corpse Collector, Sins of Weaverlock, and Wavelock (the Three Knights), with a final-boss encounter named in launch playthroughs. Five chapters plus hidden stages mean the true roster is larger — expect community documentation to fill in the rest.

How do you beat Scholar Raven?

Scholar Raven closed the demo at Air Harbor. The general boss rules apply: memorize the pattern, move in small increments, and make sure your build's affixes and elements actually chain — the fight is the game's "you know this game" checkpoint.

Who is the final boss in Pass the Fear?

One launch playthrough names Alicia, the World's Treasure Diva as the final encounter, with a choice at the end (a crystal shard left after the "false god's" death). Treat exact naming as community-documented until official material confirms it.

What do bosses drop in Pass the Fear?

Soul Shards (the Squad Point currency), difficulty unlocks (clearing Hard unlocks the top three tiers since patch 7.26), and higher-tier loot on higher difficulties. In Reality, bosses also gate the Pearl choice.

Are bosses different in co-op?

The fights are the same but the context changes: revives make them recoverable, and the DPS panel enables role splits. Bosses also scale up with party size, so co-op boss fights need real builds, not just extra bodies.
