7 Days to Die Maps: Navezgane, Pregen Sizes, Random Gen

7 Days to Die has two map families: Navezgane, the hand-built campaign map, and random-generated worlds in sizes from 2K to 16K (2048 to 16384 meters), with pregen maps available for every size including the famous A20-era 10K pregen. Navezgane is the best starting map because the layout is fixed and documented — every trader, city and landmark is in a known spot, like Bob's Boars & Carl's Corn, the farm that holds the Super Corn recipe. This guide covers which map to pick, how map sizes actually affect gameplay, where the pregen and Bob's Boars locations are, how the PS4 legacy edition handled maps, and where your map files live.

Navezgane is the fictional Arizona county the game's lore is built around — a fixed, hand-designed map of roughly 16 km² (4×4 km) with six biomes arranged so you experience them in order: forest, pine forest, plains, burnt forest, desert, snow, plus the wasteland toward the edges. Because it never changes, every location is documented and every trader sits at fixed coordinates (Rekt at 428 E 644 N in the pine forest, Jen at 190 E 144 S, Bob at 941 E 1566 S, Hugh at 957 W 1717 N, Joel at 1586 W 1215 S, per the official wiki's Traders page).

Why new players should start here: the map IS the tutorial. Fixed trader routes teach you the quest loop, the biome banding teaches you what resources live where, and every guide (including this one) can give you exact coordinates. Random-gen worlds trade that predictability for replayability.

Per the official wiki's Traders page, a trader "will spawn on the outskirts of every town and city" in random generation — which is why roads and town markers are the reliable way to find your first trader on any map.

Bob's Boars & Carl's Corn: The Super Corn Farm

The single most-asked location question in 7 Days to Die is where to find Bob's Boars & Carl's Corn, and it's worth a section of its own: this farm POI on Navezgane is home to numerous boars, drops into a cave network, and — the real prize — holds the recipe for Super Corn, the end-game farming crop that out-yields every other plant in the game (see the farming section of the survival guide).

  • Coordinates (Navezgane): 352 W, 646 N, per the official wiki.
  • Roughly 400 m from Trader Joel's compound, making it a natural stop on the late-game trader circuit.
  • The POI also exists in the console edition — a Fun Pimps staff answer on the official forum confirmed "Yes, they exist."
  • On random-gen maps you can still find the farm; the recipe it holds is one of the best reasons to search out a large farm POI early.

Random Gen: Sizes, Pregen Maps, and the A20 10K

Random-generation lets you control the world from a seed and size. Sizes run from 2K up to 16K (in meters; 8K is the community standard), and bigger is not automatically better — a 16K map means long, empty travel until you unlock vehicles. The map sizes:

Size World area Best for
2K Small Quick tests, tight co-op games
4K Medium Solo play, first playthroughs
8K Large The community default — balanced travel vs space
10K Extra large The famous A20 pregen 10K map: huge biomes, long road trips
16K Massive Dedicated servers with many players; brutal travel times solo

The pregen maps are developer-generated worlds included with the game — "pregen 10K" refers to the pre-generated 10K world from the Alpha 20 era that remains a community favorite (also called the "A20 pregen 10k map" in searches). Pregen worlds give you a known, polished layout without the RNG of a fresh seed. In the New Game screen, pick your world type, then choose Navezgane, a pregen, or generate from a seed.

Pick 8K unless you have a reason not to

8K is the community default for a reason: it has room for every biome and POI type without hours of dead travel. 4K if you're solo and want action fast, 10K+ if you're running a dedicated server with vehicles unlocked. The server IP guide covers the crossplay note — console players cap crossplay worlds at 8K.

Map Seeds Worth Knowing

A seed is just a string that seeds the random generator — same seed, same map. Community favorites documented across the scene: "7daysdead" (four forest towns for an easy start), "runawayz" (cities near the cold biome's edge, safe biome progression practice), "dontdie" (four towns in a symmetrical pattern — ideal Blood Moon base placement), and "notdayz" (three large wasteland cities for quest grinders). Any modern seed produces a balanced map; these just front-load specific advantages.

PS4 (Legacy) Maps

The legacy PS4/Xbox One versions (the 2016 Telltale-era build) were a different, frozen product: the current-game map selection — random gen with sizes and pregens — did not exist there. The legacy console edition shipped with Navezgane as its map (plus a limited set of fixed POI layouts), no random generation, no pregen options, and multiplayer capped at 4 players. The legacy edition was delisted when 1.0 launched and never updated past its 2017 build; the current-gen Console Edition (PS5/Xbox Series) got the full PC map system — Navezgane plus pregens — with random gen arriving in a post-launch patch, per the official Alpha Exodus FAQ. If you're on PS4 and seeing old guides mention "PS4 maps," they mean that frozen Navezgane-era selection.

Where Map Files Live

Your generated world's data (map, chunks, players) lives in the saves folder: %APPDATA%\7DaysToDie\Saves\{world} on Windows and ~/.local/share/7DaysToDie/Saves/{world} on Linux. For dedicated servers the world saves live in the server's Saves directory. Custom downloaded worlds go into Data\Worlds in the game install. Backing up, migrating, and version-restoring these folders is covered step by step in the save files guide.

A map is tied to its game version

Major updates change the world format. A world generated on V2.6 may not load on V3.1, and an A21 save certainly won't open in 1.0 — incompatible saves show red in the load screen. The save guide explains the branch-pinning trick that keeps old maps alive.

FAQ

What is the best map in 7 Days to Die?

For your first playthrough, Navezgane — fixed layout, documented trader and POI locations, and it doubles as a tutorial. After that, an 8K random-gen (or pregen 8K) world is the community standard. 10K pregens are for people who want huge biomes and long road trips.

Where is Bob's Boars and Carl's Corn on the map?

On Navezgane at 352 W, 646 N, roughly 400 m from Trader Joel. The farm is full of boars, drops into a cave, and holds the Super Corn recipe — the best crop in the game.

What sizes can 7 Days to Die maps be?

2K, 4K, 8K, 10K and 16K meters. 8K is the community default; 10K (including the famous A20-era pregen 10K map) suits players who want huge biomes; 16K is for large dedicated servers. Crossplay sessions with consoles cap at 8K.

What maps did the PS4 version have?

The legacy PS4 edition (2016–2024, delisted) had only Navezgane-era fixed maps — no random gen or pregen selection, no updates past 2017. The current PS5 Console Edition has the full PC map system with Navezgane, pregens and random gen.

Where are 7 Days to Die map files stored?

World data lives in %APPDATA%\7DaysToDie\Saves\{world} (Windows) or ~/.local/share/7DaysToDie/Saves/{world} (Linux); dedicated servers keep saves in their own Saves directory. Custom worlds go in Data\Worlds.
