Subnautica Commands — Console Command List, Cheats and How to Use Them

Subnautica's developer console is a full cheat suite: spawn items and vehicles, fly, teleport across the map, unlock every blueprint, and disable survival mechanics. In the current 2.0 "Living Large" build you open it by pressing Shift + Enter (or the backtick key) on PC, and on consoles through the pause-menu button combo (LB+RB on Xbox, L1+R1 on PlayStation, and the touch-corner method on mobile). Using any console command disables Steam achievements on that save — so save first, and know that the console is the same one the mod scene's unlockdoors and debug tools ride on.

Per the official Subnautica Wiki: "Console Commands are a group of tools that adjust the player's experience outside the normal scope of Subnautica. These commands can be used for debugging purposes, to view partially-implemented content, or simply for player enjoyment. Using these commands will disable all achievements and potentially impair the in-game experience! Make sure to save the game before using them!"

How to Open the Console

The input method changed with the Living Large (2.0) update in December 2022 — old guides that say "press F3, uncheck Disable Console, press Enter" are outdated for the current build.

Platform How to open the console
PC (current 2.0 build) Press Shift + Enter or the backtick ` key
PC (legacy branch) F3 → uncheck "Disable Console" → Enter
Xbox / PlayStation Pause menu → hold the bumpers (LB+RB / L1+R1) → press A/X
Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Console works only on the Switch 2 version
Mobile Pause menu → touch and hold top-left + top-right corners → console button

Type the command, press Enter, and it executes instantly. Use the Up arrow to scroll through previously entered commands. Commands are not case-sensitive (GOD works the same as god).

Story commands can brick your run

countdownship, explodeship and startsunbeamstoryevent advance or skip story flags permanently on that save. Triggering them at the wrong time can lock you out of progression or break quest triggers. Only use them on a throwaway save — the same rule as our captain's quarters code guide's console note about unlockdoors: the console is a debug tool, not a story skip.

Do Console Commands Disable Achievements?

Yes. The moment you run a console command on a save, that save is flagged as modified and Steam achievements are disabled for it permanently (in-game on consoles too, where trophies pause until you save and reload). This is per-save, not per-account: start a fresh, unmodified save and achievements work normally again. Mods have the same effect per the mods guide — any loadout that touches the game flags the save.

Console "Codes" People Search For

A quick note on "subnautica code" searches: most people looking for a code actually want one of three things — the Aurora door codes (2679 etc., in our captain's quarters code guide), the console commands above, or the debug coordinates (the warp targets in our Below Zero map guide and the Lava Zone entrances in the Active Lava Zone guide). All three are covered — you don't need to "unlock" anything in the game files.

FAQ

How do I open the console in Subnautica?

On the current 2.0 build, press Shift + Enter or the backtick key on PC. On console, open the pause menu and hold the bumper combo (LB+RB / L1+R1) then press A/X. The legacy branch uses F3 → uncheck Disable Console → Enter.

What are the best Subnautica cheat commands?

god (invincibility), nocost (free crafting), unlockall (all blueprints), warpme (teleport to safety), item [name] [amount] (spawn items), bobthebuilder (everything at once) and noenergy (free power).

How do I spawn items in Subnautica?

Type item [name] [amount] in the console — e.g. item titanium 10 or item kyanite 5. Creature/vehicle spawns use spawn [name] [amount]. Item names are the lowercase in-game IDs (lithium, kyanite, titanium...).

Do console commands disable achievements?

Yes — using any console command permanently disables Steam achievements on that save. It's per-save, so a fresh unmodified save earns achievements normally.

What is the command to teleport in Subnautica?

biome [name] teleports to biome centers (e.g. biome lostriver), warp x y z goes to exact coordinates, and warpme returns you to your last vehicle/base/lifepod.
