Remnant 2 Armor Sets — Every Set, Weight Class, and the Best Armor for Each Build
Remnant 2 has about 30 armor sets across the base game and three DLCs, each made of four pieces (head, body, gloves, legs), and they can't be upgraded — the weight and damage reduction you see is final. Armor weight determines your dodge type (Light/Medium/Heavy/Ultra Heavy), and the Armor stat converts to damage reduction through the formula DR = Armor ÷ (Armor + 200), capped at 80% total. This guide covers every set, how weight classes and damage reduction really work, and what to wear for each playstyle.

How Armor Works in Remnant 2
Unlike the first game, armor pieces are not upgradeable — the stats you pick up are the stats you keep, which makes the October 2023 rebalance (which flattened the armor-to-weight ratio across all sets) the last word on set balance. Two numbers matter on every piece:
- Armor — converts into damage reduction via
DR = Armor ÷ (Armor + 200). Examples: 137.9 armor ≈ 40.7% DR, 220 armor ≈ 52%, 330 armor (with the Fortify trait) ≈ 62%. Total damage reduction from all sources is hard-capped at 80% — more on that in our Bulwark guide. - Weight — decides your dodge class and its stamina cost (below).
Per the official Remnant 2 patch notes (October 26, 2023): "Adjusted Armor to Weight Ratio for all armor sets. Adjusted Weight Class Stamina Penalty for Medium, Heavy, and Ultra Heavy."
Weight Classes and What They Do to Your Dodge
Your total weight (all four pieces plus anything else you equip) drops you into one of four brackets:
| Class | Weight | Dodge | Stamina penalty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light | 0 - 25 | Fast dodge (+2 i-frames) | None |
| Medium | 25.1 - 50 | Normal dodge (+1 i-frame) | +25% |
| Heavy | 50.1 - 75 | Slow dodge | +50% |
| Ultra Heavy | 75.1+ | Flop | +75% |
Weight can be managed: the Strong Back trait (Challenger) adds up to 15 dodge-weight threshold, and amulets like Leto's Amulet (-26 weight after 100 flops), the Rusted Navigator's Pendant (-15) and Twisted Idol (-15) plus rings like Dran Memento and Fae Protector Signet (-5 each) can drop a full weight class — see our traits guide and rings guide for the full loadout tricks. The Bright Steel Ring sidesteps all of it: fastest dodge regardless of weight.

| Bandit | Light | 54.4 | 21.6 |
| Elder | Light | 52.1 | 24 |
(Notable extras: the Labyrinth set is a medium 80.9/42.4 with the best elemental resistances in the game; the three Deluxe/Ultimate editions give early access to Elder, Radiant and Void — all obtainable in-game anyway, as our Ultimate Edition guide explains.)
The Best Armor Sets by Playstyle
- Tank (Ultra Heavy): Leto Mark II is the community standard — the highest practical armor with balanced elemental resistances, and the whole reason the Ring of Omens + Bright Steel Ring weight tricks exist. Leto Mark I is slightly tankier but heavier and harder to offset.
- Balanced (Heavy): Bruiser (the Challenger's starting set) is the efficiency king — 140 armor at 62.8 weight sits comfortably in the Heavy bracket, and Challenger's Strong Back trait keeps you rolling well. Radiant is the crit-build favorite: 137.9 armor with +12 shock resistance.
- Cast/utility (Medium): Labyrinth (80.9 armor, huge elemental resistances) or Field Medic for support builds. Red Widow (found in The Lament) is a stylish medium with bleed resistance.
- Glass cannon (Light): Bandit for the classic looter-shooter ammo synergy, Dendroid for status builds, Realmwalker for the Archon/Backrooms aesthetic.
Because total damage reduction caps at 80%, a Heavy set plus the Fortify trait plus Bulwark stacks is usually enough — stacking beyond that wastes stats you could spend on damage. The sweet spot for most builds is Medium/Heavy (50-75% armor DR) plus one consistent Bulwark source.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many armor sets are in Remnant 2?
About 30 including the DLCs: 22 base-game sets (from Academic to Zealot) plus Crimson Guard and Zealot's (Awakened King), Battle and Disciple (Forgotten Kingdom), and Phetyr and Nanoplated (Dark Horizon), alongside standalone headpieces.
What is the best armor set in Remnant 2?
Leto Mark II for tanking, Bruiser for the best armor-per-weight efficiency in the Heavy bracket, and Radiant for crit builds. Light builds (Bandit, Dendroid) win on dodge quality rather than raw stats.
How does armor weight work in Remnant 2?
Total weight determines your dodge: Light (0-25) fastest dodge with no stamina penalty, Medium (25.1-50) normal dodge, Heavy (50.1-75) slow dodge, Ultra Heavy (75.1+) a flop — each heavier class costing more stamina per dodge.
Can I upgrade armor in Remnant 2?
No — armor is fixed once found. The October 2023 patch rebalanced all sets, and the only improvements come from traits (Fortify, Strong Back), amulets and rings that adjust encumbrance or armor effectiveness.
How is armor damage reduction calculated?
DR = Armor ÷ (Armor + 200). At 137.9 armor you have ~40.7% DR; at 330 armor (with Fortify) ~62%. All damage reduction sources together cap at 80%.
