Romance is one of Fields of Mistria's biggest 1.0 additions — the 1.0 update on August 5, 2026 raised the NPC heart cap from 8 to 10 hearts, added proposals, customizable weddings, marriage, and children. There are 12 marriage candidates: 10 regular candidates plus Caldarus and the Priestess, both special unlockable candidates.

The 12 Marriage Candidates
The 10 regular candidates (available from the start, though hearts gate the romance-specific dialogue):
- Adeline (mayor) and Eiland (archaeologist) — the town-leadership siblings
- Balor (traveling merchant), March (blacksmith), Ryis (farmer), Hayden (rancher)
- Valen (doctor), Olric (innkeeper), Celine (florist), Reina (fishmonger)
The 2 special candidates:
- Caldarus — the dragon statue on your farm; unlockable through a dedicated questline (see the Caldarus guide)
- The Priestess — a second special candidate with her own unlock path
Fields of Mistria is fully player-sexual — any candidate can be romanced by any character. Pick favorites freely.
The Heart Path: 8 → 10 Hearts
- Two gifts per week per candidate, plus birthdays (which don't count against the cap) — see the gift guide.
- Villager quests and requests give large heart chunks beyond gifting — always do a candidate's personal quests.
- 10 hearts is the marriage threshold — in Early Access the cap was 8, so 1.0 players see two entirely new hearts of content.
Proposal and the Wedding
Once a candidate hits 10 hearts, you can propose:
- Proposal items are obtained through the romance progression (the specific item varies by candidate — community sources note the ritual varies).
- The wedding event is customizable: you pick the flower color, cake flavor, and reception meal.
- After the ceremony, your spouse moves in and the married-life content begins — new dialogue, daily spouse interactions, and the family system.

Children (1.0 Family System)
1.0 added children through the Mystical Feather questline:
- After marriage, the Mystical Feather quest becomes available — it's the family-planning trigger.

Children occupy the home and add daily needs — rushing the family quest in your first in-game year while the farm is still scaling is the most common regret. The farm layout guide helps you plan space.
Dating, Hearts, and the Festival Route
Romance runs on more than gifts — the game gives you two parallel systems:
- Gifts — two per week per candidate, plus birthdays (which don't count against the cap); loved items are +800 hearts, liked +500 (see the gift guide).
- Dates — once your friendship is high enough you can schedule dates with a candidate twice per week (Saturday and Sunday), and the Shooting Star Festival (Summer 28) is the big set-piece: give a candidate with 4+ hearts the brooch from Elsie, then meet them at 8 PM at The Summit (festivals guide has the full event). The day ends when the cutscene starts, so do it last.
A Shooting Star date on top of a loved-gift week is the single biggest heart jump available — and the calendar guide shows the date falls late in Summer, when the mines and fishing are already paying for gifts.
