Fields of Mistria Romance Guide — All 12 Candidates, Marriage & Children

Fields of Mistria has 12 romanceable characters in 1.0, and the path to marriage is longer than most guides admit: eight hearts to unlock dating, a full year of gifts and weekend dates, blacksmithing level 30 to forge the engagement ring, and then a wedding day that can't fall on a festival or your own birthday. There's no divorce — so pick your spouse carefully.

This guide walks the entire romance pipeline with the exact requirements: heart thresholds, every date type and how to unlock it, the ring recipe, the wedding rules, and the child that comes with each partner.

Here's what you'll learn:

  • The exact heart threshold that unlocks dating (and the skip trap that locks you out forever)
  • All 12 marriage candidates, their birthdays and their loved gifts
  • How dating works: weekend slots, the +60 point value, and the six date types
  • The engagement ring: blacksmithing level 30 and the exact materials
  • Wedding day rules, the no-divorce reality, and all 12 children

How Romance Unlocks in Fields of Mistria

Romance uses the same hidden heart points as friendship. The pipeline is strict:

  1. Reach eight hearts (1,125 points). Daily conversation (+7) and loved gifts (+20) get you there; nothing romance-specific unlocks before this.
  2. Take the romantic option in their eight-heart scene. A cutscene plays and ends on a choice — one reply is the romantic one. Choose it and you're dating.
  3. Let Elsie explain dating. A day after you start dating (and finish the villager's eight-heart storyline), Elsie visits the farm, walks you through dates, and hands over your first inspiration items.
Never skip the eight-heart scene

Skipping it sets that villager to Best Friend permanently — the scene never returns and the romantic choice is lost forever. The game warns you before you skip. If you're already dating someone, skipping their scene has no effect.

The 12 Marriage Candidates

All twelve romanceable villagers, with birthdays and the loved gifts worth planning around. Full gift tables are in the gift guide.

Candidate Job Birthday Loved gifts to stockpile
Adeline Town Leader Winter 18 Coffee, Gazpacho, Lemon Pie, Middlemist, Mistril Ingot
Balor Traveling Merchant Summer 10 Alda Gem Bracelet, Chili Coconut Curry, Perfect Ruby
Caldarus Dragon Spring 25 Apple Honey Curry, Fried Rice, Harvest Plate, Seafood Boil
Celine Gardener Summer 14 Hydrangea, Middlemist, Frost Lily, Crystal Rose
Eiland Archaeologist Summer 20 Chocolate Cake, Coconut Cream Pie, Golden Cookies, Pumpkin Pie
Hayden Sweetwater Farm Winter 8 Golden Egg, Golden Butter, Golden Cheese, Golden Mayonnaise
Juniper Bathhouse Fall 26 Crystal Rose, Fish Tacos, Golden Cookies, Black Tablet
March Blacksmith Spring 16 Gold Ingot, Mistril Ingot, Meteorite, Sushi Platter, Perfect Ores
Reina Inn Cook Fall 12 Apple Honey Curry, Breaded Catfish, Ice Cream Sundae, Rosemary Garlic Noodles
Ryis Carpenter Spring 4 Golden Bristle, Golden Bull Horn, Hard Wood, Lobster Roll
Seridia Dragon Winter 2 Dragon-Forged Fang/Core/Horn/Powder, Dragon Pact Tablet
Valen Town Doctor Fall 1 Beet, Beet Salad, Deep Sea Soup, Harvest Plate
The best stockpile strategy

March and Valen are the easiest to feed with mining loot (perfect ores, beet dishes); Eiland and Reina are the cheapest to feed once cooking unlocks. Pick your candidate early and stockpile 8-12 loved gifts for the final two hearts — the last heart needs 400 points on its own.

Dating, Explained

Dates are the fastest single source of heart points in the game: +60 per date — the same as three loved gifts. The rules:

  • Weekends only (Saturday and Sunday), and one date per day total across everyone you're dating.
  • Each partner has a six-day cooldown after a date, so you can date each partner once per weekend.
  • Two partners can share a weekend — one Saturday, one Sunday.
  • Festivals take the day's slot; a festival weekend costs you the date.
  • Dating, engaged and married partners are all eligible — marriage does not end dates.

The six date types

Each date is unlocked permanently by using its inspiration item once. The item is then spent, and that date type stays available for every partner.

Date Inspiration item How to get it Reward
Inn Meal Inn Menu Elsie's dating tutorial (handed over on your farm) Inn Date Photo
Deep Woods Picnic Picnic Set Same tutorial (or posted once Deep Woods reopens) Picnic Date Photo
Beach Walk Lovely Seashell Guaranteed from the next fish you land at the Beach Beach Date Photo
Gem Cutting Rough Gemstone 15% from mine treasure chests Gem Cutting Date Photo
Park Date Dollhouse Bench 5% from Eastern Road dig spots Park Date Photo
Bathhouse Bath Soap Sold by Wheedle for 100,000g (appears after the tutorial) Bath Date Photo
The Bathhouse date is a full reset

It costs 100,000g — the most expensive unlock on this page — but every visit fully restores health and stamina and adds 2 mana. The restore applies every single time you take the date, so it doubles as an infinite full-restore pass once you've invested.

Three of the inspiration items only start dropping after Elsie's tutorial — fishing at the Beach, opening mine chests or digging before that point produces nothing. There are also three event dates (Shooting Star Festival, Harvest Festival, and your Wedding Day) that don't use a weekend slot and award their own photos. Nine photos total complete the wall set.

The Engagement Ring

To propose, you need ten hearts, to be currently dating, an Engagement Ring in hand, and you can't already be engaged or married. The ring is forged, not bought — no shop sells one.

Requirements: Blacksmithing level 30, and the recipe (which arrives through a cutscene).

Materials:

Material Amount
Dragon-Forged Core 1
Diamond 2
Mistril Ingot 4
Gold Ingot 4

Forge time is 40 minutes. Proposing consumes the ring, so make sure it's the partner you actually want — you can't get it back.

There is no divorce

Fields of Mistria has no divorce, separation or spouse-changing mechanic. When you become engaged, everyone else you were dating automatically changes to Best Friend and is recorded as an ex (the Disable Break-ups setting prevents this). You can date as many people as you like, but you marry exactly one — permanently.

Marriage & the Wedding Day

Once they say yes, you pick the wedding day from a calendar. The rules:

  • The wedding must land between 5 and 14 days after the proposal.
  • It cannot fall on a festival or on your own birthday.
  • The Wedding Day event awards the Wedding Day Photo.

After marriage, everything stays open: you can still invite your spouse on dates (including the Bathhouse reset), and the relationship continues past 10 hearts if the cap rises in a future update.

Children

Each of the 12 partners brings one child, so which child you raise is decided entirely by who you marry. The child uses a lighter or darker skin-tone variant based on your avatar's setting.

Partner Child
Adeline Ellie
Balor Sterling
Caldarus Tephra
Celine Rowan
Eiland Astrid
Hayden Wilder
Juniper Rune
March Fray
Reina Cedar
Ryis Kam
Seridia Brid
Valen Torin

The Fastest Path to Marriage

Here's the point economy that matters:

Action Heart points Frequency
Date +60 Once per partner per weekend
Loved gift on birthday +40 Once per year
Loved gift +20 Once per day
Liked gift +10 Once per day
Talk +7 Once per day
Eight-heart threshold 1,125 points
Ten-heart threshold 1,850 points

The plan: reach 8 hearts with your chosen candidate (roughly 2-3 weeks of daily talk + loved gifts), take the romantic option in their scene, then run a weekend date (+60) plus daily loved gifts (+20) every week. Stockpile 8-12 loved gifts for the final hearts and time the biggest batch for their birthday week. In parallel, push blacksmithing to level 30 and gather the ring materials (Dragon-Forged Core from the mines, diamonds from gem cutting or mine chests). Most efficient players can be married by early-mid year two.

FAQ

How do you get married in Fields of Mistria? Reach 10 hearts, date the candidate, forge an Engagement Ring (blacksmithing level 30: 1 Dragon-Forged Core, 2 Diamonds, 4 Mistril Ingots, 4 Gold Ingots), propose, then pick a wedding day 5-14 days later that isn't a festival or your birthday.

How many romanceable characters are in Fields of Mistria? Twelve: Adeline, Balor, Caldarus, Celine, Eiland, Hayden, Juniper, March, Reina, Ryis, Seridia and Valen. Everyone else caps at ten friendship hearts with no romantic scenes.

Can you get divorced in Fields of Mistria? No. There's no divorce, separation or spouse-changing mechanic. Choose your spouse before proposing — the engagement ring is consumed on proposal.

Do you have children in Fields of Mistria? Yes — each of the 12 partners brings one specific child (e.g. March → Fray, Celine → Rowan). The child's skin-tone variant follows your avatar's setting.
