Fields of Mistria Mines Guide — Every Biome, Ore & Seal Questline
Complete Fields of Mistria mines guide: all five biomes and their ores, the seal questline that gates progress, what mining pays, and practical tips for deep runs.
Fields of Mistria Mines Guide — Every Biome, Ore & Seal Questline
The Fields of Mistria mines run 100 floors across five biomes, and depth alone doesn't open them — a chain of seal quests does. Each biome has its own ore, gem, monsters and forageables, and each step deeper is gated by offering specific items at a seal: the Water Seal needs an upper mines mushroom, the Fire Seal a faceted rock gem, and the Ruins Seal pushes you through the void mass quest first.
This guide covers the full 1.0 mines experience: every biome and what it drops, the complete seal questline, what mining actually pays, and the tips that keep deep runs profitable instead of a stamina black hole.
Here's what you'll learn:
- All five biomes: floor ranges, ores, gems and forageables
- The seal questline — exactly what to offer at each of the five seals
- Why you should smelt ore before selling it (10g → 110g)
- How Essence, artifacts and monster drops pay the bills
- The practical rules for long runs without fainting

The Five Mine Biomes
Floors are generated fresh every run — nothing about a floor's layout is memorisable — but the biome at each depth is fixed. That's what you plan around:
| Biome | Starts | Ore | Gem | Notable forageables |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Upper Mines | Floor 1 | Copper Ore | Ruby | mushroom, sweetroot |
| The Tide Caverns | Floor 20 | Iron Ore | Sapphire | sea grapes, cave kelp |
| Deep Earth | Floor 40 | Silver Ore | Emerald | crystal berries, earthshroom |
| The Lava Caves | Floor 60 | Gold Ore | Diamond | flame pepper, lava chestnuts |
| Ancient Ruins | Floor 80 | Mistril Ore | Pink Diamond | spell fruit, essence blossom |
Each biome also brings its own artifact set for the museum's archaeology wing (dig spots and clods in that biome yield them), its own themed armour set, and combat XP that rises with depth — 3 XP per monster in the Upper Mines, climbing to 7 XP in the Ancient Ruins.
The Faceted Rock Gem — one of the most-searched mine items and a Fire Seal requirement — is part of the Deep Earth artifact set on floors 40-59. If you're hunting it for the seal or the museum, focus your digging there.
How Progress Works: The Seal Questline
The mines do not open by depth alone. Progress is gated by a chain of story quests — the main story of the mines — each asking you to offer specific items at a seal:
| Seal | Unlock step | Items to offer |
|---|---|---|
| Water Seal | Talk to Eiland about the water tablet | Lantern moth, Ruby, Stone loach, Upper mines mushroom |
| Earth Seal | Show Juniper the earth tablet | Coral mantis, Sapphire, Archerfish, Cave kelp |
| Fire Seal | Translate the fire tablet with Juniper's help | Faceted rock gem, Rockroot, Emerald, Sealing scroll |
| Ruins Seal | Get a void decoy from the priestess | Breath of fire, Smoke moth, Firesail fish, Obsidian |
| Final Seal | Craft items at the Dragon Forge, offer at the Dragonsworn Tablet on floor 100 | Dragon Forge crafts |
Reaching the Ruins Seal pulls you through the void mass quest, which needs 5 each of void stone, void powder, void herb and void pearl — all farmed from the void content that unlocks just before it. Budget several sessions for this step; it's the longest single gate in the mines.
What Mining Pays
Mining funds the rest of your game through four channels:
Ores and gems. The headline numbers: raw Copper Ore sells for 10g, but a smelted Copper Ingot sells for 110g — eleven times the value. Always smelt before shipping. Gems, by contrast, sell for more in raw form than cut, so sell rubies and sapphires as-is unless you need them for dates or crafting.
Essence. Monsters and clods drop essence stones of every size, and Essence is the currency for the perk system — the same perk currency that unlocks the Legendary fishing perk (80 Essence). A mining run funds every other skill track.
Artifacts. Each biome's artifact set feeds the museum's archaeology wing. Museum completion ties into renown and town progression, so dig spots are never wasted time.
Monster drops. Monsters drop crafting materials and coins on top of essence. The Lava Caves and Ancient Ruins monsters are the only source of several late-game materials.
Practical Tips for Deep Runs
Every pickaxe swing that breaks rock costs stamina, and there's no way back up except walking. Deep runs without food end in fainting or a very slow climb. Bring cooked dishes, and ideally ones from the biome's own recipe list — each biome has dishes that give a bonus when eaten inside it.
Clods are the safest money. Rock clods don't attack and always drop their ore, plus a chance of a rare. Clearing them is steady income between fights — they're the best grind target for ore.
Fishing in the mines is a separate pool. Each biome's water has its own five fish with no season or weather restrictions. It's a free source of museum donations and cooking fish while you're down there.
Plan around the seal chain. If your goal is the 100th floor, gather seal items as you go — hold onto your first ruby, sapphire, emerald and faceted rock gem instead of selling them. Selling your seal materials is the classic mistake that adds a week of re-farming.
FAQ
How many floors are in the Fields of Mistria mines? 100 floors across five biomes: Upper Mines (1-19), Tide Caverns (20-39), Deep Earth (40-59), Lava Caves (60-79) and Ancient Ruins (80-100).
How do you unlock deeper floors in the mines in Fields of Mistria? Through the seal questline. Each seal requires offering specific items — the Water Seal needs a lantern moth, ruby, stone loach and upper mines mushroom; later seals add faceted rock gems, sealing scrolls and void quest items. The Final Seal is on floor 100 at the Dragonsworn Tablet.
What is the best ore to mine in Fields of Mistria? Mistril Ore from the Ancient Ruins is the endgame ore, but for money the rule is simple: smelt everything before selling. Copper Ore is 10g raw but 110g as an ingot — a much bigger jump than the higher-tier ores in raw form.
What do you need for the Water Seal in Fields of Mistria? Talk to Eiland about the water tablet first, then offer a lantern moth, a ruby, a stone loach and an upper mines mushroom at the seal.
Is mining worth it in Fields of Mistria? Yes — it's the primary source of ore for tool upgrades and smelting profit, Essence for perks, artifacts for the museum, and forageables used in recipes and seals. Clods give safe, steady income with no combat risk.
Can you fish in the mines in Fields of Mistria? Yes — each biome has its own five-fish pool with no season or weather restrictions. Mine fish are useful for museum donations and cooking, and don't compete with the surface rotation.
