Full Launch Roster: All 12 Fighters
The full lineup was confirmed on the character select screen ahead of launch. Here's every fighter, grouped by element:
| Fighter | Element | Series | Archetype |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aang | Air | ATLA | Mobile rushdown, glider pressure |
| Avatar State Aang | All four | ATLA | Zoner with elemental mix-ups |
| Zuko | Fire | ATLA | Rushdown, low base damage |
| Katara | Water | ATLA | Zoner with stance-based offense |
| Toph | Earth | ATLA | Armored aggression |
| Sokka | Non-bender | ATLA | Sword + boomerang trickster |
| Azula | Fire | ATLA | Trap-based pressure monster |
| Kyoshi | Earth | ATLA | Heavy hitter, slow movement |
| Ozai | Fire | ATLA | Grappler with strong throws |
| Korra | All four (Water main) | TLOK | All-rounder combo machine |
| Nightmare Korra | Dark spirit | TLOK | Corrupted power, awkward movement |
| Zaheer | Air | TLOK | Easy-to-learn aerial fighter |
Aang is voiced by Da-Ni Lin and Korra by Jacqueline Grace Lopez, reprising their roles from the shows. The roster deliberately mixes eras: three Avatars (Aang, Kyoshi, Korra), the Fire Nation royal family, the Red Lotus, and one non-bender (Sokka) to prove the sword works fine against lightning.
Avatar State Aang and Nightmare Korra are upgraded forms of base characters, not brand-new fighters. If you count "unique movesets," the true day-one variety is ten archetypes plus two transformations. That's the roster's biggest criticism — and the reason the Year 1 Pass matters.
Unlockable Characters: Avatar State Aang & Nightmare Korra
Two of the 12 slots are locked when you start the game. The ten available from the beginning are Aang, Korra, Zuko, Katara, Toph, Sokka, Azula, Zaheer, Kyoshi and Fire Lord Ozai.
- Avatar State Aang — unlocks by reaching Chapter 11 in story mode and completing "The Inner Battle," where you play as him. He's a separate character from base Aang (not a power-up): a full-screen zoner with access to all four elements.
- Nightmare Korra — unlocks partway through story mode as well, after facing her corrupted form. She has stronger damage than base Korra but noticeably worse movement, which competitive players are still weighing up.
If you don't want to play through the campaign, a menu cheat code unlocks both instantly — highlight Arcade, Training, Local VS and Arcade again, pressing Select/Back/Share on each. The exact sequence is documented on the IGN wiki and covered in our wiki hub.
Every Support Character (36 Total)
Before each match you pick one of three supports for your fighter. Supports don't enter the arena; they modify your kit — combo routes, mobility, resource economy. The complete list, per esports.gg's full effects table:
| Fighter | Supports | What they change |
|---|---|---|
| Aang | Gyatso / Momo / Appa | Gyatso: ground mobility; Momo: air mobility & faster air attacks; Appa: damage & combos at higher chi cost |
| Avatar State Aang | Katara / Avatar Roku / Guru Pathik | Water (heal on water moves), Fire (follow-ups + burn), Air (Harmonic Drift mobility) |
| Zuko | Mai / Ran & Shaw / June | Mai: projectiles & zoning; Ran & Shaw: movement speed; June: divekicks |
| Katara | Kanna / Hadoka / Pakku | Kanna: new combo routes; Hadoka: movement; Pakku: ice projectile zoning |
| Toph | Badgermole / The Boulder / The Hippo | Badgermole: pillar setups; Boulder: heavier hits; Hippo: rushdown options |
| Sokka | Master Piandao / Suki / Princess Yue | Piandao: sword upgrade levels; Suki: cheaper Flow cancels; Yue: boomerang combos |
| Azula | Lo & Li / Joo Dee / Ursa | Lo & Li: longer traps; Joo Dee: 25% cheaper Flow cancels; Ursa: permanent Firelord Stance |
| Kyoshi | Rangi / Kelsang / Yun | Rangi: combo follow-ups; Kelsang: double jump; Yun: air control |
| Ozai | Firelord Sozin / Admiral Zhao / Imperial Firebender | Sozin: speed; Zhao: grappler options; Imperial Firebender: defense |
| Korra | Naga / Tonraq / Raava | Naga: Flow movement; Tonraq: cheaper Avatar's Path & chi economy; Raava: longer Avatar State |
| Nightmare Korra | Vaatu / Dark Spirit / Dark Avatar Unalaq | Vaatu: cancel 236 moves into Flow; Dark Spirit: chip on normals; Unalaq: waterbending buffs at zero energy |
| Zaheer | P'Li / Ming Hua / Ghazan | P'Li: stronger air assists; Ming Hua: enhanced Water Lash; Ghazan: improved Lava Burst assist |
This is not a tag-team assist system like MARVEL Tōkon or 2XKO. Supports never appear on screen mid-match — they passively tune your fighter. The pick happens at character select, and it's a real strategic layer: Sokka with Suki plays a completely different resource game than Sokka with Yue.
Year 1 DLC Roster: Iroh, Ty Lee, Lin Beifong, Bolin & the Fan Vote
Announced at EVO 2026, the Year 1 Pass adds five post-launch fighters and is bundled with the Deluxe Edition:
- Iroh (ATLA) — firebending veteran, presumably a technical rushdown or stance character
- Ty Lee (ATLA) — non-bender chi-blocker; expect a fast, mobility-heavy style with pressure tools
- Lin Beifong (TLOK) — earth/metalbending police chief, likely a mid-range control fighter
- Bolin (TLOK) — lavabending and pro-bending, a versatile earth fighter
- Fan-voted fifth — voting is open between Tenzin, Kuvira, Amon, Bumi and Asami, and pre-order owners get voting rights
Characters release "over the course of the season," but exact dates and the Year 1 Pass's standalone price were still unconfirmed at the time of writing (unverified).
Tagah: Free DLC Airbender (Fall 2026)
Tagah was announced as a free DLC character on launch day, July 23, 2026. He's an ancient airbender introduced in the Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender film (which released on Paramount+ in July 2026), and he joins the roster for all players at no cost in Fall 2026 — separate from the paid Year 1 Pass. Per dashfight's coverage, Tagah is the first of what the developer calls a roadmap of post-launch content. His moveset hasn't been shown in detail yet; we'll update this page when it lands.
Roster Gaps the Community Is Already Debating
The launch cast covers the big names, but the community's main complaint is Legend of Korra representation: base Korra, Nightmare Korra and Zaheer are the only TLOK-era fighters in the base game. Tenzin, Asami, Kuvira and Amon only exist as fan-vote candidates, and Mako/Bolin weren't playable until DLC was announced. Fans of Kyoshi-era content at least got Kyoshi herself plus her supports (Rangi, Kelsang, Yun). The consensus: the base roster is solid but thin, and the Year 1 Pass — not free updates — is where the real roster expansion happens. For strength rankings across the current 12, see our tier list.
Official source: Nintendo Everything's roster reveal confirms the 12 launch slots, the four announced DLC fighters, the five fan-vote candidates, and Tagah as free DLC.
