Persona 5 Persona List — Every Compendium Entry & Arcana Explained

Persona 5 has roughly 190-191 Personas in its compendium, and Persona 5 Royal expands that to about 192-197 in-game entries (community counts vary) — over 230 when you include DLC packs and party members' evolved forms. They're organized by Arcana: 22 Major Arcana in vanilla Persona 5, plus Faith and Councillor added in Royal. The whole list is a lot to memorize, so this guide gives you the counts, the Arcana structure, the specific Personas players actually search for (Makami, Suzaku, Andras, Lilim, Horus, Shiisaa), and how recruitment and fusion work.

How Many Personas Are in Persona 5 and Royal?

The headline numbers, with sources so you can check our math:

Version Compendium entries Source
Persona 5 (vanilla) ~190-191 GameFAQs community count (190 non-DLC); Mask Collector trophy video (191 total)
Persona 5 Royal 192 (Fandom wiki community count) to 197 (TheGamer's fusion-guide count) Megami Tensei Wiki Fandom FAQ; TheGamer
Royal incl. DLC + party Personas 232 TheGamer

The discrepancies come from counting conventions: whether DLC Personas (roughly 26 packs of original + "Picaro" variants), party members' initial/evolved Personas, and treasure demons count toward the "compendium" percentage. The List of Persona 5 Royal Personas on the Megami Tensei Wiki is the cleanest authoritative list, and TheGamer's breakdown explains why counts differ. Either way, Royal holds the franchise record for most Personas — our Persona IP expansion guide puts that in franchise context.

All 24 Arcana in Persona 5 Royal

Every Persona belongs to one Arcana, and each Arcana is tied to a Confidant. Royal has 24:

# Arcana Associated Confidant (Royal)
0 Fool Igor / the protagonist's journey
1 Magician Morgana
2 Priestess Makoto Niijima
3 Empress Haru Okumura
4 Emperor Yusuke Kitagawa
5 Hierophant Sojiro Sakura
6 Lovers Ann Takamaki
7 Chariot Ryuji Sakamoto
8 Justice Goro Akechi
9 Hermit Futaba Sakura
10 Fortune Chihaya Mifune
11 Strength Caroline & Justine
12 Hanged Man (Toranosuke Yoshida's party)
13 Death Tae Takemi
14 Temperance Sadayo Kawakami
15 Devil Ichiko Ohya
16 Tower Shinya Oda
17 Star Hifumi Togo
18 Moon Yuuki Mishima
19 Sun Toranosuke Yoshida
20 Judgement Sae Niijima
21 Faith (Royal) Kasumi Yoshizawa
22 Councillor (Royal) Takuto Maruki
23 World (finale)

Per the official Persona 5 Royal Steam store page, Royal adds "new story content, new characters and new Personas" over the original — Faith and Councillor are the two new Arcana, and maxing either Confidant unlocks its ultimate Persona (Asura for Faith, Adam Kadmon for Councillor).

The Personas People Actually Search For

These specific Personas show up in searches over and over, so here's the quick-reference table — Arcana, level and how to get each in Persona 5 Royal (cross-checked against the Megami Tensei Wiki list and the gameludens P5R database):

Persona Arcana Level Where / how
Makami Temperance 15 Fusion; recruit from Shadows; Japanese wolf-god (aka "Hunting Wolf Spirit")
Suzaku Sun 16 Fusion; vermilion bird of Chinese mythology
Shiisaa Strength 15 Fusion; Okinawan shisa lion-dog (aka "Rooftop Lion")
Andras Devil 27 Fusion; 63rd demon of the Ars Goetia (aka "Menacing Owlman")
Lilim Devil 32 Fusion; Night-race demon from Abrahamic lore (aka "Woman Who Brings Ruin")
Horus Sun 47 Fusion; Egyptian falcon-headed sun god
Dominion Justice 68 Fusion / recruit; fourth order of angels — see our Dominion P5X guide for its P5X version

Most of these are mid-game fusion targets: Makami and Shiisaa are available almost immediately once fusion opens up, Suzaku comes a little later, and Andras/Lilim arrive in the mid-game Devil Arcana slot. The gameludens P5R persona database lets you filter the entire list by Arcana and resistances if you want the complete table with stats.

Use a fusion calculator for the exact recipes

Persona fusion recipes aren't static — the result depends on the two personas' Arcana and levels. Sites like the aqiu384 megaten fusion tool (P5R compendium module) compute the exact pair for any target persona, which beats guessing when you're hunting a specific mid-game pick like Horus.

How to Collect Personas — Recruitment vs Fusion

Two systems feed the compendium:

  • Negotiation — when you knock a Shadow down (exploit its weakness), you can talk to it. Each Shadow has a personality (Upbeat, Timid, Irritable, Gloomy) that likes/dislikes certain responses; succeed and it joins you as a Persona ("Lend me your power"). You can't recruit a Shadow whose level exceeds Joker's.
  • Fusion — the Velvet Room guillotine combines two or more of your Personas into a new one (fusion alarms in Royal can upgrade or alter results). Fusing a persona you already registered adds the new one to the compendium; you can re-summon registered Personas for money.

For 100% compendium completion, negotiation alone won't cut it — the highest-level Personas (Satanael at 95, Adam Kadmon, etc.) require specific fusions, some of which need Confidant ranks maxed. Party members' Personas evolve only when their Confidant hits rank 10 (see our characters guide for each member's evolution line).

Do DLC Personas Count Toward 100%?

No — DLC Personas (the roughly 26 pack entries like Izanagi-no-Okami, Orpheus Picaro, Raoul) don't count toward the compendium completion percentage in either P5 or Royal, per the Megami Tensei Wiki list notes. They're added to the compendium for free when purchased (and the PC/current-gen versions include all 45 DLC packs at no extra cost — see our Take Your Heart edition guide for what the ports include). So a "full compendium" run can skip them, though they're handy early-game powerhouses.

P5X Personas — A Different System

Persona 5: The Phantom X reuses the same Persona designs but swaps the system: personas are 1-5★ gacha units obtained via Contracts and events, not fusion. Makami, Suzaku, Andras, Lilim, Horus and Shiisaa all appear in P5X with P5X-specific ranks and tiers — Dominion is a 5★ buffer there. Our P5X guide explains the gacha model, and the Dominion P5X page shows how a persona you know from Royal translates into the live-service game.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Personas are in Persona 5 and Royal? Vanilla Persona 5 has roughly 190-191 compendium entries; Royal has 192-197 in-compendium (sources count differently), or 232 including DLC and party members' Personas. Royal holds the franchise record.

What are the Arcana in Persona 5 Royal? 24 total: the 22 standard Major Arcana (Fool through World) plus Faith (Kasumi) and Councillor (Maruki) added in Royal. Each Arcana maps to a Confidant.

What level and arcana is Makami in Persona 5 Royal? Temperance Arcana at level 15 — an early fusion/recruit target. It's the "Hunting Wolf Spirit" from Japanese mythology and is also available in the same form in P5X.

What is the best way to collect every Persona? Use negotiation for Shadows you meet, fusion for everything else, and a fusion calculator for exact recipes. Max Confidants to unlock the Arcana ultimate Personas (Satanael, Adam Kadmon, Asura, etc.), and don't stress DLC packs — they don't count toward completion.

Do DLC Personas count toward the compendium? No — DLC Personas and their Picaro variants don't count toward the completion percentage in Persona 5 or Royal. They're free to register once purchased, and the PC/Switch/Xbox ports include all of them.
