DragonSword Awakening Gear Guide — Karma Weapons, Runes, Awakening & Titles

The upgrade stack in DragonSword: Awakening goes deeper than the "gear levels up" surface: signature Karma weapons, a rune card system, a six-level Awakening per hero, and a title system that's free stats hiding in plain sight. Here's the whole progression ladder and how to spend your materials like a veteran.

Here's what you'll learn:

  • Gear, Karma weapons, runes, Awakening, and titles — each system explained
  • What each upgrade material is for
  • The correct upgrade priority order
  • The level-cap system that gates it all

The Five Upgrade Systems

1. Gear. Equipment levels with materials as you progress. The endgame twist: Forging Molds (from daily Regional Missions) let you customize the main stats on endgame gear — so gear is a "roll the right base, then mold the stats" system rather than pure luck. Note that gear does not change your character's appearance — cosmetics live in costume DLC (see the editions guide).

2. Karma weapons. Every hero's signature weapon, upgraded with Basic Karma dropped by World Bosses. Some heroes also get Exclusive Karma tied to their Hero Quests — the reason Hero Quests matter beyond tickets (see the side quests guide).

3. Runes. Stat cards you slot for bonuses — a card-game-like secondary layer. The 1.0.7 patch raised the carry cap from 200 to 500 and made duplicate counts visible in inventory, which tells you the rune economy runs through farming (see the farming guide).

4. Awakening. The late-game power spike: each hero has six Awakening levels, and each stage unlocks bonuses that sharpen offense or add new passives that change how the character plays. The material is Stigma Awakened Stones, purchased for 200 Fragment of Sacred Light each — a long-term investment, not a week-one goal.

5. Titles. Free stat boosts earned from achievements and activities — some are trivially easy to grab early, and they're the cheapest power in the game.

Titles first, always

Titles are essentially free stats — check your title list after every milestone and equip anything that fits your build. It's the best power-per-minute ratio in the game.

The Level-Cap System (the Frame Around Everything)

All of this sits inside the level-cap progression: heroes and gear soft-cap until the next mercenary rank (earned through story), then the cap lifts. This is the pacing skeleton from the game's mobile past, and it's why "farm more" is rarely the answer — the answer is "advance the story." The full loop is in the beginners guide.

Upgrade Priority: What to Spend First

The community-tested order:

  1. Main DPS's Awakening — the six-level Awakening is the biggest single power spike; focus your carry before spreading across the roster.
  2. Carry's Karma weapon — Basic Karma from dailies; weapon level is pure damage.
  3. Titles — free; equip immediately.
  4. Skill upgrades (Skill Scrolls) — after the above, since abilities scale off your levels.
  5. Gear molds — endgame; don't burn Forging Molds early, save them for gear you'll keep.
Don't spread Awakening materials across the roster

Stigma Awakened Stones cost 200 Fragment of Sacred Light each, and Sacred Light accumulates slowly through exploration. Awaken your main DPS to the next tier before touching anyone else — a half-awakened roster is weaker than one fully-awakened carry.

A Note on the "Gacha Skeleton"

Reviewers called out the leveling scaffolding as the game's weakest link (see the review) — book-fed levels, cap gating, and gear that doesn't change looks. Knowing the systems are a ladder rather than a casino makes them manageable: nothing here is random, nothing is paywalled, and everything has a fixed farming path.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does gear work? Gear levels with materials; endgame Forging Molds customize main stats. Appearance comes from costumes, not gear.

What are Karma weapons? Signature weapons per hero, upgraded with Basic Karma (World Bosses) and Exclusive Karma (Hero Quests).

How does Awakening work? Six levels per hero, gated by Stigma Awakened Stones (200 Fragment of Sacred Light each).

What should I upgrade first? Titles (free), then your main DPS's Awakening and Karma weapon, then skills and gear molds.
