How to choose and host a Conan Exiles server: official vs private servers, PvP/PvE/PvE-C/RP modes, rates settings, hosting providers and RP server culture.
Conan Exiles Servers Guide: Hosting, Server Types & Settings
Conan Exiles is a multiplayer survival sandbox, and the server you pick determines everything about your experience — PvP raid windows or PvE peace, boosted rates or brutal vanilla, modded or official. In 2026 the server landscape also split in a new way: Conan Exiles Enhanced (UE5) and Legacy (UE4) run separate server pools, so your version choice comes first. This guide covers the server types, how hosting works (official, rented, self-hosted), the rate settings that matter, and where the RP community lives.
Here's what you'll learn:
- The four server types: PvP, PvE, PvE-Conflict, and RP
- Enhanced vs Legacy servers in 2026 (they can't mix)
- Hosting options: Funcom official, rented (G-Portal, Host Havoc), self-hosted
- The multiplier settings that fix the worst vanilla defaults
- RP servers, merchant signs, and the communities that run them

Conan Exiles Server Types (2026)
The game offers three official combat modes plus the community "RP" convention:
| Mode | Player damage | Base raiding | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| PvP | Always on | Always on (raid windows configurable) | Raid-cycle clans, wipe-server drama |
| PvE | Off | Off | World content, dungeons, casual groups |
| PvE-Conflict (PvE-C) | During raid windows only | During raid windows only | Social safety + scheduled combat |
| RP | Usually PvE | Off | Roleplay communities with house rules |
Single-player / co-op is the fifth option: a local world where co-op friends join you — but they're tethered to the host, so it only works for small groups. Official servers (run by Funcom) are the "clean" experience: no mods, default-to-moderate rates, and — in the Enhanced era — the only place the migrated official world lives.
Since the Enhanced launch (May 5, 2026), the PC version splits into two incompatible builds. Enhanced (UE5) servers and Legacy (UE4) servers are separate pools — you can't join a Legacy server from the Enhanced client or vice versa. The launcher asks which version you want, and your friends must match. Consoles (PS4/PS5, Xbox) remain on Legacy entirely. Our crossplay guide has the full platform breakdown.
Hosting: Official, Rented, or Self-Hosted
Three ways to run a server, in increasing control order:
- Official servers (free, Funcom-run) — pick one from the in-game browser. Zero setup, zero admin powers, no mods.
Per the official Conan Exiles Enhanced announcement, all official PC servers were brought down on May 4, 2026 at 15:00 UTC and migrated to the Enhanced (UE5) build — a one-way database update with no way to take a character back to Legacy. The Enhanced migration moved all official PC servers to UE5 on May 4–5, 2026, with no way back (per the official Enhanced announcement).
- Rented servers (paid, third-party hosts) — G-Portal, Host Havoc, Nitrado, Pingperfect and similar providers rent dedicated Conan Exiles servers with a control panel: set rates, install mods, manage admins, schedule restarts. This is the standard for communities and clans. Both G-Portal and Host Havoc published detailed UE5-era setup guides (e.g., Host Havoc's Enhanced guide and G-Portal's Enhanced guide).
- Self-hosted (free, your own hardware) — run the dedicated server from the Steam Tools; full control, but you handle updates, backups, port forwarding and uptime. Most hosts charge roughly $10–20/month for a Conan server, which is usually cheaper than your electricity and time unless you enjoy sysadmin work.
What a rented server gives you that official doesn't: mods (the entire Workshop ecosystem runs on private servers only — official servers ban them), custom rates, admin commands, backup control, and community management. For the mod install workflow (modlist.txt, SteamCMD, load order), see our unofficial patch guide — it covers the server-side install in detail.
Quick community for a week? Rent. Long-term clan home with mods? Rent with a host that supports Workshop mod sync. Permanent personal world with full control and no budget? Self-host. And always check whether the host's "Conan" servers run Enhanced or Legacy — in 2026 this is the #1 cause of "why can't my friends join" issues.
The Server Settings That Actually Matter
Vanilla defaults are tuned for solo play, which is why most multiplayer groups immediately change the same handful of settings:
- XP Multiplier — 1.0 default; groups run 1.5–3x so new characters catch up.
- Harvest Amount Multiplier — 1.0 default; 1.5–3x makes gathering a game instead of a job.
- Player Crafting Time Multiplier — drop to 0.5x so re-crafting gear doesn't eat your evening.
- Day/Night Cycle Speed — 0.5x lengthens the day; players hate playing in the dark.
- Thirst/Hunger Drain — many servers cut it to 0.5x.
- Raid windows (PvP) — most PvP communities run 3–5 hour windows per evening and disable avatars (god avatars one-shot entire bases; modern PvP servers universally disable them).
- Land claim decay — lower to 4–7 days on PvP so abandoned bases don't block prime land.
These are all set from the server's configuration before launch; rented hosts expose them in the control panel. There's no in-game UI for them.
RP Servers and the "Warped RP" Question
Roleplay servers are PvE servers with house rules: realistic building, character backstory requirements, whitelist applications, and a culture enforced by admins. The best-known long-running example in the Enhanced era is Halcyon D&D — a text-based D&D 5e-style RP server for Conan Exiles, complete with its own rules, character system and mod collection (see halcyon-dnd.com).
On "warped rp" specifically: this search usually targets a specific RP community, but there is no single famous server by that name, and the term is too generic to pin down reliably. What's verifiable: RP servers advertise in the in-game browser and on the Funcom forums' server section, and most run heavy mod stacks (Pippi for administration, character/backstory mods, building-piece mods). If a friend invited you to "Warped RP," ask them for the direct IP — that's the only reliable way in.
Merchant signs belong to the RP/economy world: the Merchant Signs knowledge unlocks placeable signs (Sign (Cook), Sign (Farm), Sign (Tannery), Standing Sign variants, and more) that let player-run shops label their stalls. The official Merchant Signs wiki page lists every sign variant — on economy and RP servers, a sign is how you tell buyers what you're selling.
The RP experience depends on mods — Pippi for character systems, Roleplay Redux for emotes and backstories, building mods for realistic construction. That means RP servers are exclusively private (rented/self-hosted) servers, and joining one means installing its exact mod collection. See our mods guide for how the install and load order work.
FAQ
What are the different Conan Exiles server types? PvP (players and bases always vulnerable), PvE (no player damage), PvE-Conflict (PvP only during raid windows), and RP (PvE with roleplay house rules), plus single-player/co-op. Official servers are Funcom-run and unmodded; private servers add mods and custom rates.
Can I host my own Conan Exiles server? Yes. Rent from a provider (G-Portal, Host Havoc, Nitrado, Pingperfect) with a control panel, or self-host using the dedicated server from Steam Tools on your own hardware. Self-hosting means handling updates, backups, port forwarding and uptime yourself.
What are the best Conan Exiles server hosting providers? G-Portal and Host Havoc are the most-cited for Conan (both published official UE5-era setup guides); Nitrado and Pingperfect are popular alternatives. Compare Enhanced/Legacy support, Workshop mod sync, backup tools and price (typically $10–20/month) before choosing.
What server settings should I change for multiplayer? Raise XP and harvest multipliers (1.5–3x), lower crafting time to 0.5x, lengthen the day cycle to 0.5x, cut thirst/hunger drain, and for PvP set raid windows to 3–5 hours per evening and disable avatars. Rented hosts expose these in the control panel.
Where can I find roleplay (RP) servers like Warped RP? Browse the in-game server list and the Funcom forums' server section. Halcyon D&D (halcyon-dnd.com) is a well-established example. "Warped RP" has no single famous server by that name — if a friend invited you, get the direct IP from them.
