Sephiria Tier List — Weapons & Artifacts Ranked for 1.0

The Sephiria 1.0 meta ranks Greatsword and Staff as S-tier weapons, Sword & Shield, Crossbow and Dagger in A-tier, and Katana in B-tier — per Destructoid's published 1.0 tier list. Artifacts are harder to tier because the grid and combo tags decide their value, but there is a clear set of community-favored artifacts per role. This guide gives you the ranked weapons, the best artifacts and grimoires by role, the Destiny Inscription priority order, and what changed in the 1.0 environment.

Weapon Tier List (1.0 Meta)

The six weapons ranked for the current 1.0 environment, following Destructoid's tier list:

S-Tier

Weapon Attack values Why
Greatsword 1.75 / 1.25 / 4 Highest damage per swing; the Whirlwind special (up to 400%) melts groups. Slower to learn, but the payoff is the biggest in the game.
Staff 1 / 0.8 / 2.5 Most versatile: elemental trees for any build, and you can lean on special attacks while bypassing normal attacks entirely.

A-Tier

Weapon Attack values Why
Sword & Shield 1 / 0.8 / 2.5 The best learning weapon: balanced offense, guard/perfect guard, sweeping special. Never the flashiest pick, always solid.
Crossbow 1 / 1 / 2 Safe ranged damage with piercing arrows; the ~40% move-speed penalty while firing and reload management keep it out of S-tier.
Dagger 0.58 / 1.1 (Parry 1.3, Fury 4.8) One of the most powerful weapons in skilled hands — fastest attacks in the game, strong parry, huge Fury burst. Low per-hit damage and stagger punish mistakes.

B-Tier

Weapon Attack values Why
Katana 1.1 / 0.8 / 2.34 Great flexibility through Sword/Kick stance switching and short invincibility on stance swaps, but the complexity makes it the hardest family to master — weak in average hands.
Tier lists are playstyle-dependent

Destructoid's author is explicit: "What might be S-tier for me might be A-tier for you." The Dagger, for example, is mechanically S-tier in skilled hands but sits in A-tier because its skill floor is high. Play what you can execute.

Best Artifacts by Role

Artifacts don't tier cleanly as a single list — their value depends on the grid, the combo tags, and your weapon's activation coefficient. But community guides (Pro Game Guides, TheGamer) consistently highlight these per role:

Role Top picks Why
Economy / XP Golden Maple Leaf More XP = more level-ups = more artifact/tablet choices. The best snowball starter.
Companion Mini Ballista, Golden Handbell, Yellow Planet Summons distract bosses and chip damage passively; any companion artifact is a strong early pickup.
Damage Völuspá, Riposte Blade Fragment Piercing damage and a strong early multiplier, respectively.
Defense Scabbard of Exorcism Defensive boost that keeps early runs alive.
Magic Meditation Book, grimoires with Academy tags Cast-speed relief and spellbook damage — see the Grimoire build.

Combo tags to prioritize in 1.0: Precision (crit), Glacier/Ember (elemental), Academy (magic books), Guardian (defense), Planet (passive damage), Colleague (companions), Dark Cloud (lightning overdrive). The wiki's artifact guide has the full tag list with build connections.

Per the community combo guide, combo effects work through thresholds: artifacts with compatible tags contribute to a threshold, and the resulting effect improves a stat or build identity. A lower-threshold effect that activates early beats a stronger combo you never reach.

Best Grimoires (Magic Books)

Grimoires are the spellbooks that sit in your quick slots — they are the weapon of the magic builds, distinct from elemental weapon damage. The community-tagged tiers:

  • Hextech (lightning): Lightning Bolt, Lightning Boomerang, Thunder Armor, Thunder's Judgment — strong single-target and chain damage; the backbone of the Staff/lightning build.
  • Ember (fire): Fire Bolt, Fire Arrow, Fire Circus, Meteor Shower — best area damage; Meteor Shower is the legendary payoff.
  • Glacier (ice): Ice Bolt, Frost Dagger, Arrow Rain — control-focused; freeze is the strongest status in the game (freezing one part of the Library golem boss freezes all parts).
  • Shadow: Smoke Screen — defensive utility, not damage.
  • Arcane: Great Blessing — support scaling.

Stat note: Magic Damage only affects spells in your quick slots — it does not boost elemental weapon damage. This is the most common build mistake in the game, per the community core-systems guide.

Destiny Inscription Priority (What to Spend Sapphires On)

The permanent tree order recommended by the community:

  1. Home Repairs (unlocks Talents — non-negotiable first purchase)
  2. Talent Points (compounds every run)
  3. Level Up Restoration (heal on level-up keeps runs alive)
  4. Dice (reroll rewards once you know what you want)
  5. Inventory space (more grid = more build)
  6. Graceful Weapon Training (10 Sapphires, unlocks the Staff after Chapter 5)
Avoid random Sapphire spending

Spending on side nodes before the core four above slows your power curve noticeably. The community is unanimous: early Sapphires go to house → Talents → level-up heal, in that order.

What Changed in the 1.0 Environment

The July 31, 2026 1.0 release added the sixth chapter and final boss, more weapon upgrades and miracles, more items, and additional hard modes. Patch notes since launch have adjusted balance (the final boss's Phase 1 radial bullet spread was tuned, and patch 0.11.5 applied balance changes across weapons), so re-check the current patch notes before treating an older tier list as gospel. The weapons guide keeps the stat tables current, and the review guide covers how the meta landed at launch.

FAQ

What is the Sephiria weapon tier list for 1.0?

S-tier: Greatsword, Staff. A-tier: Sword & Shield, Crossbow, Dagger. B-tier: Katana. Based on Destructoid's published 1.0 tier list.

Which artifacts are best in Sephiria?

It depends on role: Golden Maple Leaf (XP/economy), companion artifacts like Mini Ballista and Golden Handbell (control), Völuspá and Riposte Blade Fragment (damage), Scabbard of Exorcism (defense), and Meditation Book (magic).

Is the Greatsword better than the Staff in Sephiria?

Both are S-tier for different reasons: Greatsword for raw burst damage, Staff for versatility (elemental builds, special-heavy play). Pick by playstyle.

What are the best grimoires in Sephiria?

The Hextech (lightning) and Ember (fire) lines are the strongest — Meteor Shower and Thunder's Judgment are the legendary payoffs. Glacier (ice) is the control pick because freeze is the strongest status.

What should I spend Sapphires on first?

Home Repairs → Talent Points → Level Up Restoration → Dice → inventory space. Graceful Weapon Training (Staff unlock) comes after clearing Chapter 5.
